Hello, there! Glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is... Er... Professor Maple! People affectionately refer to me as the Pokemon Professor. This world is inhabited far and wide by creatures we call Pokemon. For some people, Pokemon are pets. Others use them for battling. As for myself... I... Uh...study Pokemon as a Profession! Well, trainer. Your very own Pokemon Legend is about to unfold! A world of adventure awaits!

The goodbyes had been a little bit hard. I was confident I'd see my goofy, bubbly mother again, so it wasn't too bad. But I didn't know exactly when. Despite the ridiculous clothing she insisted on puchasing for me, I was going to miss her. She was my mother after all.

As I crossed through the front doorway of my home, adjusted my strangely large hat slightly, and then paused to check my bag in order to make sure all the required supplies were in place, the excitement really hit me. I'd already been ready to go this morning when I'd woken up, but actually getting outside, looking up at the sun, and then breathing in the fresh air just got me more excited.

I was going to be a Trainer. Finally!

I walked down the front steps of my house, took a quick look back at my house, and the started into a run. My thoughts were centered on getting a Charmander. Not only were the little fire lizards adorable, but they could also set things on fire. Which was awesome.

My mood was dampened slightly when one of my neighbors stopped me.

"Hey Cassie!" he called. "What are you running for?"

I was tempted to just ignore him. "Hello, Nate."

My voice was notably deadpan.

"I'm heading to get a starter Pokemon from Professor Maple!" I continued, the excitment coming back in full force at the prospect.

"Oh," Nate looked oddly perplexed. Nate was my neighbor, a boy a couple years older then myself. He was also impressively slow most of the time. "Why are you doing that?"

He sounded honest, like he somehow didn't understand. I rolled my eyes.

"Because I'm going on a magical adventure with a Lugia to the land of chocolate cake," I replied, my voice deadpan once more. "Why do you think I'm doing it?"

Nate looked a little irritated. "I was just asking, you know."

"Don't ask stupid questions. See you," I quickly bade a goodbye, before running off. The next building over was Professor Maple's lab.

I came to a halt, sending up a suprisingly large cloud of dust. I knocked sharply on the door, adjusting the far too large hat again. The thing kept nearly sliding off. I brushed off the rest of my clothing. Normally I wouldn't care so much about clothing this ridiculous, but I felt I had to look nice and cleaned up when I met Professor Maple. Couldn't have dust all over my clothes.

"Professor Maple?" I asked, knocking again.

As you knocked at the door to the lab, you heard a loud, shuffling sound and papers being dropped on the floor. There was sound of someone rushing to pick up the fallen papers, and before you knew it the door swung open, and you saw a thin looking man in his early twenties. He fumbled with the papers he had picked up, almost looking out of breath.

"Yes? Hello? Are you here for something, young miss?"

I raised and eyebrow, perplexed. He did know I was coming here, right?



"It's me, Professor Maple," I said. Upon getting nothing but a confused stare, I elabortated. "Cassandra Teltin? I'm here for my starter, so I can become a Pokemon Trainer. Or did you forget again?"

I hoped the elaboration would jog his memory. He was a little absent-minded most of the time. Normally I would've been a bit more snarky, but I was still a little to excited for that.

The man looked at you, almost like he was just insulted insulted.

"Professor Maple? Do I look like an old man to you?" Suddenly he laughed, looking as though he had just been told a joke from you. "Very funny kid, I'm one of his assistents. Please, come on in"

With that the man turned and walked into the lab, expecting you to follow.

Wow. I felt kinda stupid for that one. I hadn't seen Professor Maple since I was very, very young, so I guess I had an excuse for that. I only knew he was kind of absent-minded from my mother.

But... shouldn't he have known I was coming? I mean, logically, the Professor would've told his assistants that people were coming by to get their starters today.

"Sorry about that, I haven't seen the Professor since I was really young," I said, following the assistant in.

He chuckled as he put the papers back in order. He sat in a chair and began going through files, organizing them as if the job was routine.

"Yes, that makes sense..." He looked back at you. "So... Here for your starter, eh?"

"Yeah," I replied. "I really can't wait. It's pretty much the greatest birthday present ever. I can't wait to get out there and start my adventure to be the best trainer I can possibly be."

After a moment's thought, I added "Plus, it gets me away from my idiot neighbor."

He laughed as you added it in, looking at you with a wide grin.

"Yeah... You're all out dreaming of adventure. It was honestly a great experience for me, too. But I found that working here and studying was more my taste..."

He looked towards the large door in the back, then back at you. "Professor Maple should be here shortly... But, I should warn you about him, he can be rather odd at times... Don't get me wrong, the man's a genious without a doubt! He can just a little...absent minded..."

I laughed a little. I'd expected a lab assistant to be a little less cheerful and a little more preoccupied.

"Don't worry, I know what to expect. My mom told me all about how he can be a little... forgetful," I replied.

The Aide smiled. "Excellent! I'm sure you-" He was interrupted by the sound of a larger, older man stepping in. The Aide immedietly stood a little straighter. "Oh! Professor! I didn't know you were here yet"

Professor Maple turned to him.

"Pardon? Ah... yes! I'm here now. What do you-..." He then noticed you, and smiled. "Well, who do we have here? Are you here for something Miss?"

Jeez, my mom wasn't exaggerating about the forgetfulness.

"It's me, Professor. Cassandra Teltin? My mother called ahead, she knew that I'd be coming in today to pick up my starter," I explained. I was fully aware of how ridiculous I must look in a hat that's at least a foot tall.

He stared at you for a moment, looking as though he was lost in his own world thinking about what you had just said. A few moments passed and suddenly he blinked.

"Hmm? Pardon? Ah... Yes, that's right! I remember now!" His smiled widened, and he clapped his hands together. "Cassandra, your mother called ahead for you. Please, come with me to get your starter"

He turned around and opened the large door, revealing a bright room. He walked inside, calling back to you. "Have you put alot of thought into your choice? It is a very important one..."

I folded me arms. I'd put a plenty of thought into my choice, and I was set on a Charmander. I'd researched plenty, I'd read up on how they behaved, I was completely set on one of the fire lizards.

However, there was a notable lack of Pokeballs.

"Professor? Where are the Pokemon? There's no Pokeballs in this room... I've made my decision, though," I smiled. I didn't even have the urge to snark at the forgetful Professor. I was far too excited. "I'm going to have a Charmander."

The Professor chuckled at you, walking over to a nearby computer and began typing on the keys, talking over his shoulder.

"Ah, yes! A fine choice!" He seemed to type in the last few keys before stepping back, and the large machine in the middle began to glow. "Pay no attention the absence of pokeballs, we get our starters imported directly from their native regions!"

There was a humming sound as the machine began to work, and suddenly a bright flash filled the room. When the light died down you could see the pokeball rising inside a glass container, and you could guess what creature the ball contained.

Professor Maple smiled. "Ah! Excellent!"

I wasted no time in walking towards the Pokeball. The excitment built up, and I felt my heart beat faster and faster as I reached the pedestal that the red and white device sat on, the only thing between me and it a cylinder of glass.

"I've been waiting for this for such a long time," I said, clearly excited. In a matter of minutes, I'd be starting my journey to be the best Pokemon trainer I can be.

"And Nate was asking why I'd was running. What an idiot."

The Professor smiled as he watched your excitement. He walked over and pushed a few buttons on the machine and the glass container slow lifted from the pokeball.

"In all my years, I discovered that there is no greater feeling then see a child smile as they see they're first one..."

He took the Pokeball and held it in his hands for a moment, smiling as he remembered how he held his first one as well. Suddenlu he pushe dthe button in the middle of the pokeball, and a bright light filled the room. When it finally died down, a small, orange lizard with a flame on it's tail was curled up on the table, looking as though it just woke up from a long nap. It looked up at you slowly and blinked.

"Charmander?"

My smile widened. My normal sarcasm still had yet to rear its head. Well, aside from a brief notion of suprise that Professor Maple hadn't forgotten to open the machine that had held the Pokeball.

"Hey," I said, voiced filled with excitment, as I leaned down to get a better look at the Charmander. "You look awfully tired."

What a weird thing to say.

The charmander looked up at you, tilting it's head curiously.

"Char?"

Professor Maple chuckled, petting the little fire-type gently on the head. Charmander responded happily to the touch, it's face forming a wide smile.

"Ah, such a friendly lad too" The Professor turned towards you. "A moment to examine it please..."

Maple quickly took out various tools, giving the fire-type a brief check up before it was sent out into the world with it's new trainer. As he did, Charmander seemed to stare at you as if knowing it was fated to go with you. The Professor stood up straight after a few minutes, and clapped his hands together.

"Ah! Healthy as ever, excellent!" He looked at you and smiled. "He's all yours..."

I looked at the fire-type, before turning towards the nearby pokeball. I picked it up. It was light, which made sense, seeing as it was completely hollow.

I'd always wondered how these things worked.

I turned back to the Charmander. My Charmander. I reached towards it head and gentlely patted it. It was warm, not that that was unexpected. It was a fire-type, after all.

I withdrew my hand, adjusted my hat, which was sliding off again, and pointed the empty pokeball my Charmander.

"Charmander, come back!" I commanded.

The arcing beam of energy lashed out from the center of the ball as it opened, and struck the little fire lizard. My Charmander glowed brightly and was drawn back into the ball, which then closed.

The ball didn't feel any heavier, but it felt a little warmer.

"Thanks, Professor Maple," I said, looking up at the absent-minded professor.

The Professor had been looking at something else for a moment, but quickly turned when he heard his name.

"Hmm? Ah, yes! Your welcome child!" The Professor smiled, and typed in a keys and the machine began to lock down.

At that moment you could hear one of the Professor's Aides calling out from one of the back rooms. "Professor Maple? I think you should come take a look at this"

The Professor nodded, not fully realizing the Aide couldn't see. He walked over to a drawer in one of the desks and opened it, calling to you over his shoulder.

"I'm afraid I have to make this next step quick..."

He came watch to you with three different colored objects. There was a green one, a red one, and a blue one.

"These are Pokegears. They will be essential on your journey as a trainer" He smiled. "Please, pick one"

I eyed each of the pokegears, unsure of which one to pick. After a moment of indecision, I made up my mind.

"I think I'll take the red one. It looks the best, and after all," I looked up from the devices. "Red is my favorite color."

I took the red one and tucked it in my bag, and then put the pokeball contained my Charmander away in my bag as well.

"Is there anything else?" I asked, not wanting to get stopped on the way out.

The Professor closed his eyes and began thinking for a moment. Suddenly he opened them and looked down at you.

"Hmm? Pardon? That will be all young trainer, let your journey begin!"

The Professor escorted you out of the starter room. He walked to talk to the Aide who looked very impatient right now. Maple didn't notice, he was too busy waving at you.

"Take care!"

I waved bakc in response, pulled my bag up over my shoulder, and made my way out the door. I'd finally started my journey to be a Pokemon Trainer. Up ahead, there was Silent Forest.

I'd never actually been through Silent Forest, but most people hadn't. It was just another add-on to the excitment, the exploration of th unknown.

"Well then, it's been a good 7 years with you, I'm hoping your new career is just as good."

"Same to you Josh, it's time I took up something new," we should hands and then I opened the door to a beautiful afternoon. It seemed more lively and happier, probably because I was out to get me pokemon, my own friend I guess.

I set forth into the day, walking down the road and waving to a few close friends of my before I arrived at the Professor's place. I knocked on the door hoping he was still here.
