Blood and Poison

For centuries, an organization has remained in the shadows. Silently giving humanity a push, inching it towards evolution. Working to perfect humanity.
This perfection is what we now know as the superhumans, the next evolutionary step for humanity according to its current leader.

The Epsilon Organization.

Capitalizing on events leading up to the Civil War fought between those who opposed the SRA and those who supported it, Epsilon introduced the world to Ashley Greene. She was of course oblivious of the involvement of Epsilon, pinning her problems on Wilson Fisk. The Kingpin of Crime. Wilson would eventually turn against Epsilon, and with a carefully placed nudge was brought down by Matthew Murdock sometime after the Civil War.

Once the Civil War had ended, Epsilon began going public, becoming big supporters in helping humanity protect itself. To evolve. Through genetic modification and cloning, Epsilon continued its work in the shadows, marching humanity closer to its own doomsday and raising a stronger human race from the ashes.

So while events gripped the Eastern coast of the United States in fear, the West coast prospered under the silent control of Epsilon.

There are those however, who will fight Epsilon. Whether directly wronged by them or simply helping a friend.

A new war is on the horizon, a war that will be fought in the shadows.
But is stopping Epsilon the right thing to do?

Deep within the depths of an Epsilon lab hidden within Angel Island, off the coast of San Francisco, a ghost slumbers. Poked and prodded by men in long white coats. Cloned to carry out the will of Epsilon.
One such clone has broken free of the shackles on her mind, working on her own to solve the problem that is her mind. She seeks the one who once kept the heart of the ghost. He also seeks answers. Answers from the organization that has been haunted the shadows. And perhaps the heart of the other he once held.
War however, is on the horizon. With each victory, no matter the side, innocent people will die because Epsilon plays for keeps. Friends and enemies, both new and old will fight, but in the end only the Ghost and the poisoned one will decide the fate of humanity.

Part One: The Ghost

So here I am, lost in my own mind for just over two years. Two years, forty five days, eleven hours and fifty three minutes.
If you're keeping track.

For the boys and girls at home, here's the score so far.
FUCK EPSILON.
Whoever these people are, they've been behind everything from the start. I didn't know that before but I do now. Wilson was used just like everyone else. Hell even my own parents factor into this somehow.

So what have I been up to before Epsilon grabbed me? Where to start...
Raising all kinds of hell would be a good way to put it. After the Civil War officially ended with Steve getting offed, I started picking fights with pretty much anyone who sided with the government while also chasing my own demons. I needed answers.
Which meant going on my own, maybe not the right decision but still one that I don't regret. One that still haunts me. I was able to track down my uncle on my fathers side, Damien. He was a big help before I was grabbed by Epsilon. Only family I have left. Suppose I was able to find some sort of closure there. He's ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. so naturally I didn't trust him at first. But he proved me wrong. Good to have someone who can see through the one way glass on my side.

So here I am, strapped down and hooked up to god knows what kind of machines. Being poked and prodded endlessly and these fuckers better hope I never get out.

I miss Ray...

Clone:
Upon arrival in San Francisco, I began a tireless search for the man from these memories. Memories from the original Ashley. An unfortunate side-effect from the cloning procedure was that sometimes a random memory or two can get sneak through.
Usually these things are caught early and dealt with but this particular memory is a strong one. Whoever this man is, he means alot to her. I need to find him, he's the only one who can help me.
But San Francisco is a big place. A big place run almost exclusively by Epsilon since the war ended. They invested billions into the city, creating industry overnight.
With eyes and ears everywhere, this wouldn't be easy. I just knew that San Francisco was the right place to start.

If I ever hear anyone say they could sleep forever, I'd probably slap them.
Hard.
This place, wherever I am, has been my own hellish version of Sleeping Beauty for two years. But I also lost track somewhere in the six hundreds. Yeah I've been counting the days. Blow me.
Point is I'm fucking pissed and I actually feel a little sorry for the first person I see when I wake up. If I wake up. I mean I'd slap Ray for not getting me out sooner but anyone else and it'll be blood.

I could feel a tingling at the back of my head. No. It was everywhere. Like that feeling you get when the blood flows back into the arm you've been laying on for the past hour because you're too lazy to move. Don't judge me.
This feeling however, it was new. Wherever I was they made it very clear that I wasn't waking up. What little power I had left from Chloe allowed me a few brief glimpses outside my body. It was a lab, the setup unlike anything I'd ever seen. At first I thought Hydra but those assholes are way too up tight. No. These guys were relaxed. Yeah lets ignore the hibernating assassin and play a game of cards! Assholes. It was always the same chummy bunch, the kind that have been working together for a long time for some sort of organization that clearly turned a blind eye to the goofing off. Sure they did whatever they were supposed to be doing but they seemed far too relaxed and it made me sick.

Slowly, I could feel the weight lifting from my chest. All the little sensations that my enhanced body picked up were coming back. Leaking through the fog. My mind was all too aware of what was going on, my body didn't seem to mind getting its senses back until it suddenly came back. All at once. A nauseating feeling erupted through my stomach and I heaved myself up off the stone cold slab of a bed and fell to the floor, coughing and gasping between heaving up whatever was in my stomach. My mind struggling to keep up with the sensory overload of sensations. By the time my hearing had adjusted, all i could hear was the sweat from my own body dripping onto the cold stone floor.

"Uhh Miss Greene? Miss Greene I need you to please remaaaHHHHHHHHH!" The scream trailed off into a series of guttural gurgles as the man fell over. In the midst of my spasms I had managed to grab a scalpel. Confident in my body, I lunged for him and sliced his throat wide open with the razor sharp surgical instrument, blood spraying across the room. On me
What were they doing to me here? My mind was twisting, working out different scenarios. Maybe they were testing my healing while I was out? All these thoughts drowned out the screams.

The blood was, soothing. Each splash warming my skin. "Please! We were just doing our jobs!" This made me stop my blood frenzy, and I turned to face the woman who had screamed. "Oh. I'm sorry. I hadn't realized you were getting paid TO TORTURE ME!" I threw the scalpel at her, blurring as it sliced through the air, burying itself in her right eye socket with such force I could hear it break through the back of her skull. She slumped over, her body jerking and spasming for a few moments before falling silent. "So much for making friends."
Calling the room a massacre was like calling Ryan Reynolds incredibly hot, because god damn was it an understatement. No, no not getting distracted.

Room. Blood everywhere. People dead. Me happy. You get the idea... "FUUUUCK!!" It was like someone threw a switch in my head. A switch that was more like a guillotine with my head at the bottom. My body began flickering as my invisibility woke up. fading in and out as I clawed at my head. It was like this for a few moments before everything calmed to a dull throb and then finally nothing.

*Elsewhere*

"Sir, we've lost contact with the sub-level containment lab."
"And?"
"Its either a sensor malfunction or what we've always feared."
"How long has it been?"
"Ten minutes now, sir."
"Its her. Send two teams, shoot to kill."

Marvel: Blood and Poison Empty
PostSubject: Re: Marvel: Blood and Poison   Marvel: Blood and Poison I_icon_minitimeSun May 15, 2016 12:03 am

“San Francisco, folks.”

I sat up suddenly as I heard the bus driver’s voice, which had snapped me back from my light snooze. I had lost track of how many hours had passed since I departed Los Angeles; taking the bus was not as fast or stylish as my usual mode of transportation. It came with the territory, however, seeing as I was entering Epsilon’s territory. Damn company owned most of the city at this point. Taking the bus was the most effective way of keeping from drawing too much attention to myself. Of course, there was no telling if Epsilon cared who I was anyways, or if they could just detect my face as soon as I came anywhere near the city. Didn’t matter much to me.

I peered out the window and saw the city come into view: big buildings, and a big bridge somewhere out there too. The bus went into the heart of the city, giving me a good idea of what to expect. Lots of people, lots of cover, and a lot opportunities for anything to happen. I tried to absorb as much of the city as possible as it passed by me; it was no LA, but it was definitely unfamiliar.

The bus came to a stop at the depot and I left carrying only a backpack containing a few important things, quickly disappearing into the crowds moving through the city.

I took the opportunity to find the cheapest hotel I could. Vigilantism was a lot of work but, unfortunately, it didn’t leave one with a lot of options for cash. Fortunately, I had gotten really good at credit card fraud.

You know: hero stuff.

I threw my stuff on one of the chairs in my room and fell back onto the bed, hearing the strain of the aged springs; at least some things were familiar. I tried resting my eyes, but there was an uncomfortable nagging in my head. Clearly, someone wasn’t very happy with the lack of action as of late. I’d probably have to go on some kind of patrol to shut it up long enough to get some real rest. So, forgoing even considering taking any sort of nap, I pushed myself off the bed and walked over to a nice, plain wall with a small hint of a smile.

“Perfect.”

Opening my backpack, I took out all the information I could gather on Epsilon: newspaper articles, magazines, gossip blogs – especially gossip blogs, those nosy little gnats. It didn’t take long before the wall was covered by taped pieces of paper ranging from Epsilon’s involvement in city development to possible influences on local San Francisco politicians and businessmen. By the time the yarn and pins came out I was too far gone – I had my very own link diagram on my wall. You know, people underestimate a good link diagram wall; it really does help see exactly how deep Epsilon rooted themselves and boy, was it deep.
Looking at the papers and strings, I could see some individuals it wouldn’t hurt to question and some companies I could see being beneficial to check out. Upside to working against the government was getting contacts with people who were really good at digging up the shit of people who really wanted their shit safe in the ground.

Someone like Bill DeLane, whose picture was pretty high on my wall.

Previously, very small-time business owner. Company was a sinking ship. Very suddenly came into a lot of money after a few very fortunate investments in the city’s rebuilding. Made a lot of money taking on some very wealthy patrons whose names were held from public eyes. Nice and suspicious – good place to start digging.

Looked like Poison was getting its patrol after all.

It was nearing midnight on the first night in the city, it was oddly calm at night. Epsilon has a tight hold on San Francisco. Particularly its key assets. Public works, anything with significant political meaning and of course the police. The entire cities police was almost completely run by Epsilon and what wasn't run by them seemed to be very tightly regulated and monitored.

With what little surveillance equipment Aurora had in the car, I was able to tap into some local security feeds. All while being perched up on the rooftop of an apartment building.
If he was here, I'd find him. But as with the original, sitting around wasn't my favorite thing to do. I was getting antsy. Itching for action. But of course with Epsilon having such a tight grip on the city, even the low end thugs were nowhere to be found.

Epsilon had done what every American city has ever dreamed of.
They had brought the crime rate to near zero.

Original
*Angel Island*

Having full access to my abilities now, I began taking in my surroundings. All too aware of the footsteps approaching. The room I was in was clean. Very clean. I mean it would put even the best hospital to shame. The room was filled with equipment. Some hummed, others buzzed. A small machine on the far room was spinning around little vials of fluid. None of it really mattered.
Footsteps were getting closer. Time to get to work.

Working with what little I had, I pulled the scalpel from the womans skull and found a few more. A door on the other end of the room slid open with a soft mechanical whisper. Two teams of four entered in standard formation, scanning the room for something they couldn't see. With all the time the had me here you'd think they would have found a way to be able to see me while invisible.

I tossed a glass beaker across the room as a distraction and slipped up behind one of them. "Boo." One hand at the front, one behind. Twist. Snap. As the lifeless body fell I pulled a rifle and some clunky looking sidearm. Two turned and fired but I had already moved. A scalpel whizzed across the room with such force it punctured a face plate. Another body fell to the floor. They were starting to panic now but you had to wonder just how they planned on surviving in the first place.

I could spot no fewer than two easy flaws with the combat armor they wore. The face plate and the gap between the helmet and chest piece. Lunging myself across the room, another scalpel found its mark as it plunged into the neck of a third victim. Warmth rushing down my arm.
I swung the gasping body as the remaining six opened fire in my general direction, using my newest victim as a bullet sponge.
They were well trained I'd give them that but the tactics were sloppy, not that I could blame them. Its as if they never expected me to actually wake up and level the place. Oh sorry I'll just be your friend now and fulfill whatever dark deeds you have planned. Fuck that. I don't answer to anyone, not anymore. Not after how we got fucked over when the war ended.

The pistol I had grabbed was some clunky power over accuracy thing, similar to my old Eagles. As a few of them were reloading, I dove off to the side and disengaged my invisibility. Forcing them to take cover as I emptied to pistol at them. Time to see what the rifle could do. It was a Remington so that was promising at least, and after switching the fire select to single shot I was ready to go, bullets and glass spraying around me all the while.

I took a peak just as one broke cover to get a better angle, brought the rifle up and gave the trigger three quick pulls. The first two shots tagged him in the back, stumbling him as he turned. The third found his faceplate and down he went.
Five to go.

PostSubject: Re: Marvel: Blood and Poison   Marvel: Blood and Poison I_icon_minitimeMon May 30, 2016 8:10 pm

It was too quiet.

San Francisco had all the usual noises I’d expect from a decent-sized city, but there was something off about it that took me a while to figure out. There were sounds of cars honking and other vehicles bustling, even people could be heard still passed midnight. That was all basic and, usually, loud on its own; but that wasn’t the sort of sense of quietness that came to mind: where was the crime?

No muggings in any alleys. No robberies in progress. Not even a purse-snatcher taking off down a street. It was all too quiet. What did it mean? I wanted to believe that good’ol San Francisco was just that good, but experience told me that something too good was usually something bad in disguise.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to sort it out.

DeLane seemed like a hard-working man – at least, that was the impression I got whilst I was watching from a shadowed rooftop outside of his office. Finding him wasn’t too hard; he must have been new to the working-for-an-evil-company gig that usually warranted a fair bit of paranoia. Working after hours alone in your office seemed like the prime-time opporunity to be suddenly and violently interrupted…and I wasn’t going to miss the chance. With precision, I used a symbiote tendril like a zip line and slid down right towards the illuminated office window.

CRASH.

Glass shattered on impact and Mr. DeLane was too shocked to do anything except scream a very loud “FUCK” in my general direction. He wasn’t going to be saying anything more, though, because in an instant my hand was clamped around his throat. I could hear him gasping for air as I lifted him off the ground effortlessly and slammed his back against the wall, leaving a sizable dent. “Do you know who I am?”
My voice had that low, masked tone behind the symbiote’s “face” that hid any sort of facial feature I was expressing for the moment – except for my eyes, which had begun to narrow. I could see him trying to comprehend what he was seeing, as though he thought he was hallucinating or something. Poison and I had developed our own style of “suit” to wear: black belted cargo-like pants, shirt with white tarantula design and dark purple leather-like jacket over top of it. He looked at me like I was some sort of demon; luckily for him, I wasn’t just yet. At any rate, it took him a long time to answer my question. I relaxed my grip around his throat…a little.
“N-no… Oh god, please d-don’t hurt me…more…” His voice betrayed his terror; I couldn’t deny the satisfaction.
“That’s just a bug bite compared to what I’m gonna do to you if you don’t answer honestly… Understand? Tell me about Epsilon.”
“E-Epsilon? They’re just the company that helped me out... Had me...invest in them...”

Liar. I felt a surge of anger and my grip tightened, causing him to choke. I almost struggled to loosen it again.

“DON’T…lie to me. I know about your deal with them. They paid you for something… They wanted something from you.” My voice cut like serrated daggers.
“Y-Yes! They offered to save my company! They wanted me to-”
“But I don’t care about that right now. Now… I want to know WHO talked to you. Who set up the deal? I want a name.”
“P-Please… He’ll k-k-kill me-”
He screamed and whimpered as my first struck right beside his head, easily destroying the wall on impact.
“That is NOTHING compared to what I’ll do to you. I. Want. A. NAME.”
“Omega! He was going by Omega! I swear! Please, I swear!”

I let go of him and he fell right on his ass, clutching his heavily bruised neck. Omega… It sounded familiar – like I had heard someone mention it before. I turned from Mr. DeLane and walked back towards the window, placing one leg through before looking back at him. “You’re right, by the way… They will kill you for talking. You should get out of town while you have a chance…even if it is a small one.”

With that I leapt from the window and onto a lower roof top, starting to make my way along into the city. At least I had a name, now; something to go on. Omega… A name like that just screamed “Epsilon” to me. Hopefully, it meant I was one step closer to finding Ashley…

Clone
*Downtown*
A shadow started passing the camera feeds, one at a time. What made it odd was that San Francisco had no enhanced presence at all. no permanent ones at least.
This was it. It was him, it had to be the man from her memories. The memories of a Ghost out of time.
With the small tablet I had from the car, I was able to track the shadow blurring across the various security camera feeds I had access to. I broke into a flat out sprint across the rooftop, clutching the tablet tight as I began bounding from rooftop to rooftop.
The camera feeds changing as the program lost feeds and gained new ones while I moved, tracking the shadow from location to location.
It was fast. Quite a bit faster than myself.
The original was always faster. Always better than the clones. This made us more expendable rather than risking her fore every little job.

I had to be getting close.
But as luck would have it, so was an Epsilon Intervention team. Likely tracking both myself and my target.

Original
*Angel Island*
Switching the rifle to full auto, I popped up and emptied the entire magazine in bursts. Two more guards fell as I slung the rifle over my shoulder and vanished from sight once again. I was growing anxious. "You're in my way!" Snap went another neck. Two to go and now I had a combat knife from latest kill. An eight inch serrated steel blade.
They were scared now and a part of me felt bad for them. A small part. They were sent down her to certain death and they went anyways. Blind loyalty and patriotism was the order of the day here and was the downfall of them.

The blade arced through the air, whistling softly as it cut the air in search of its target. Which lets be honest, it was rather easy. The knife tore through the gap under the helmet, blood spraying everywhere as my second to last victim fell back.
And the most peculiar thing happened next. My last prey killed himself. Whimpering like a puppy as he shot himself.
"Well, you're no fun at all."
The rest of my time in hell was spent silently running through the halls. So. Many. Hallways. You'd swear this place was underground. It seemed like an eternity had passed before I finally made it into the administration area of the facility. Place like this had to have some sort of a director. A boss of some sort.

"You can't keep running from your past Ashley. Let us help you." A voice echoed through halls.
Great. Mind games.
"We can help you. We can help make it all go away. All those memories. Just imagine what you could do without them haunting you."
Just ignore it. Ignore the stuffy Brit and he'll go away. By now the color of the walls had changed. Less sterilized and more business like.
I was getting close now.

Marvel: Blood and Poison Empty
PostSubject: Re: Marvel: Blood and Poison   Marvel: Blood and Poison I_icon_minitimeTue May 31, 2016 7:42 pm

I paused. I could feel it: movement behind me. Whatever it was, it was moving fast. And right towards me. I could feel my symbiote tremble with excitement; the idea of a fight was…intoxicating. I had to wonder if I had already pissed off Epsilon enough for them to come find me. I guess I had expected them to be keeping track of me. I turned and looked back, seeing if my enhanced senses could pick up the source of whatever it was that was unlucky enough to think it could screw with me now.

The real threat, however, came at me from the sides.

I ‘sensed’ the shots long before I saw or heard them, like a tingling sensation that told me to duck in its own, split-second language. I instinctively crouched low and felt the two projectiles soar above my head, missing me by mere milliseconds. That was when I noticed them: men dressed in black with green goggles. Night vision; how adorable.

The guns they were using? Not so much.

They opened fire on me – automatic weapons with slow, but accurate, ballistics. I let my symbiote guide me as I acrobatically avoided the bullets that were coming my way, but the bullets left a funny sensation as they darted past me. Not ‘haha’ funny, so much as it made my symbiote squirm in anxiousness. Whatever ballistics they were using, they obviously were emitting something sonic that made me sure I REALLY didn’t want them to hit me. Good thing that wasn’t exactly plan ‘a’.

I weaved through their fire relatively easily; their night vision allowed them to see in the dark, but it also made it difficult to track me. Finding the closest goon with a gun, I leapt up super-humanly high and came back down with a large boot striking his face. His mask shattered on impact, as I had expected, and I heard his jaw snap. He collapsed to the ground, alive but unconscious; he was not gonna be feeling that when he woke up. I quickly moved to the next closest attacker, delivering a powerful slug that knocked his helmet clean off. Two down already.
I counted four more as I let my latest victim drop. They stopped firing for a second, obviously gauging me. Apparently they liked their odds enough not to run right away; I intended to make them regret it. I leapt over to another one and jabbed, but he anticipated the move with surprising speed and, with even more surprising agility spun with the dodge and I felt his boot hit me square in the face. I stumbled back, more shocked than hurt, but that didn’t stop me from feeling a spark of rage.

“Bad move.”

He silently went for another roundhouse kick, but I was ready this time. In one fluid movement I kicked his leg straight up, flipped him, and slammed him into the ground. Hard. I turned to the other three, which seemed to back off for a moment. I figured they had, had enough but suddenly I could sense more of them closing in. Wasn’t I just Mr. Popular? The formerly featureless ‘mask’ I was wearing sprouted a huge, toothy grin. “Who’s next?” I asked in a cool tone. They responded by drawing their swords.

Which then ignited with blue flames.

Well, shit.

It was just as I had feared. An entire Epsilon Intervention team. Not just a squad but an entire team. I counted at least ten before he engaged them, they always had more on standby for situations like this. Always. It was hard to say exactly when they were aware of my presence in San Francisco, or if all of this was pure coincidence. And while he had capabilities that went far beyond his looks, I on the other hand was very underequipped for this type of fight.
I stuck to the shadows as my target engaged Epsilon with ruthless power. It was incredible to watch him work, tossing them aside like toys. As if it were just a game to him.

I engaged the enemy when I had the opportunity. Playing it smart seemed like the best option but it was quickly becoming clear that I was indeed not the intended target here, just an opportunity to tidy up a loose end while they sought a much more important prize.

Ashley
*Angel Island*

At the end of the current hall I was given a choice. Left or right. Red pill or blue pill.
“Think of the life you can have with us Ashley.” Life? You mean like the life you gave me by turning me into an enhanced and twisting my life into carnival pretzel? I chose right. “Right, because I totally planned on living my life in a drugged up coma.”
So down another hall I went. The up side to this one? It had the armory, so at this point I was sure which way was up and to be honest I didn’t much care. Because right now I was a kid in a candy store, and everything was going for the five finger discount.

I had no luck finding any of my old gear but the stuff I did find? Way better. Brand new pistols that were clearly intended for whatever fucked up program I was in. These weren’t the standard power over everything guns that the guards had. These were proper handguns, punch and accuracy. But that wasn’t the best part. No the cherry on top was a state of the art long range powered rifle, with some sort of reactor stuffed into. My only guess was that it was some sort of energy weapon.
As usual I had let myself get distracted, and where were all the other guards? I vanished from sight just to play it safe and continued my search through hells labyrinth until finally I hit the jackpot.

“Administration Area Ahead. Have All ID Present And Visible For Security” Read a sign just up ahead. Identification? I’m a motherfucking ghost. Two guards were stationed at the security checkpoint and I made quick work of them. “Excuse me boys, I’m trying to find the bathroom. Perhaps one of you could help?” They both looked around, confused with guns raised. “How about you come on out and stop playing games Miss Greene. This doesn’t have to-AHHHHHHHHH!” Wrong answer, his screams turning to gurgling gasps. The other fired at least have the magazine from his hopped up submachine gun in a panicked frenzy before I silenced him as well. “Fine. I’ll find it myself.”

Fire swords. Who came up with this shit? I avoided a flurry of slashes, relying on a combination of enhanced senses and instinct. These guys were good; obviously trained in dealing with meta humans – maybe genetic enhancements? It was hard to tell these days. I could hear more climbing up the walls. Typical ninja crap.
I caught one man by his wrist. A quick twist and I felt the shoulder dislocate before I heard it, quickly followed by a scream. I kept my prey at range, mainly, out of reach of the blades. I felt the next guy come up behind me before I saw him. He lunged, but was way too slow to hit me. I grabbed him by his helmet and slammed his head into the ground. “Is this the best Epsilon can do…?” I let the symbiote mesh our voices together; I felt it upped our ‘alien monster’ impression. A powerful uppercut sent another unconscious form hurtling over.

Suddenly, I noticed I wasn’t the only knight taking on the pawns.

I had to give her credit: she was quiet – almost quiet enough to jump in without me noticing. I turned towards her, and amidst the chaos of the brawl it was hard to tell any more about her other than her gender at first. And skill. She was clever enough to take down the stragglers while I took on the rest. But all it took was a few moments of examining her form and fighting style that I began to see the similarities.

“Ashley?”

I spoke it the moment I had come to the conclusion.  My mind raced, but I snapped out of it when I felt a sharp, burning pain pierce my leg. I hadn’t noticed in time to avoid having a burning sword pierce my calve. Idiot. In one swift motion my hand formed a jagged blade starting at the wrist, plunged it right into his shoulder, and drove the blade of his sword into the ground…through his foot. That’d teach him.
My emotions were running hot, but I managed to stay composed even with the pain. My leg still burned; something about the blade was slowing down my healing. Made a mental note to check it out later. We still had a little bit of a fight left to finish.
My attackers had thinned significantly very quickly; between the two of us they wouldn’t last much longer.

*Angel Island*

After awhile you kinda start wondering who the hell designs places like this. Do they atleast provide maps to new employees? It was another maze of corridors before I found this mystery administration area, fancy name for the place where they bring you in and set you loose in the maze I suppose. The whole area felt off, it was too lightly guarded. Hell the whole place seemed understaffed. Or maybe they never expected anyone to actually escape.

Through a series of security checkpoints, all staffed by people who clearly were not trained to handle the security situation that was my escape, I finally made out. Even got a sweet communicator in the process.
My senses were overwhelmed with sensations I hadn't felt in a very long time. The cool breeze. The smell of the ocean. Was enough to bring a tear to my eye, if I still cared enough for that.

Through the fancy communicator, I learned that something was going on in the city. Something that required Epsilons full attention. Seems a couple of enhanced were causing trouble, one described as some sort of alien monster and the other a woman.
Wait. Was I watching my own story? Monster and a woman who didn't know any better, fighting with odds stacked against them. It was my entire life up until now. But not anymore. Its time to shift those odds, and make Epsilon pay for the hell they've put me through.

"Hey asshole. City. Now." He turned to look down the barrel of my pistol. Jumpy ass pilot must have shit himself. But he listened. "Good boy. Now take it nice and easy and we both get to live." The helicopter lifted off, letting the island fade away into the distance as it made its way towards the city of San Francisco.

*Downtown*
The battle was beginning to thin out as I heard a helicopter in the distance. Backup? It was unlike Epsilon to send in backup via air drop, they almost always relied on ground superiority. A few more armored SUV's had rolled up to aid the failing teams before them. My symbiote friend, whom I had never met before this yet somehow knew already, had taken care of most of them. I knew better than to engage directly. Things were going well until he finally noticed me. It was like someone had stabbed him in the heart, and then of course someone literally stabbed him. Typical of someone connected with a symbiote, he reacted with anger. Somewhere overhead, the helicopter zoomed by. Its presence attracting the attention of my ally, or atleast he was for the time being.

PostSubject: Re: Marvel: Blood and Poison   Marvel: Blood and Poison I_icon_minitimeSat Sep 24, 2016 7:41 pm

Finally, the last gun-and-sword wielding goon fell to the ground after a good crack to the back of the head. I glanced around me, taking in the carnage. Most were either dead or unconscious; it didn’t matter to me which was which at this point. Some of the ones I hadn’t been too rough with had come to, but were far too hurt to do anything but groan. Lucky for them. Satisfied, I turned back to Ashley.
I tried to read her, but all I got was a feeling of indifference. Something wasn’t right. I stepped closer, trying to get a better look at her. It was definitely her face, but was it her? My uneasiness had shifted my relief into caution. With Epsilon involved, I could be dealing with any number of situations. Still, I couldn’t help but remain hopeful. “Ash, it that really y-“

I was cut off by the sound of a helicopter overhead. Damn backup.

It cut overhead, and I recognized the Epsilon paint job; I had seen their ‘copters before and I didn’t have time to be dealing with it right now. Not with her brainwashed by Epsilon or whatever other hell they had done to her. I tracked the air vehicle – pilot was doing a standard sweep, spotlight and everything. Predictable, but I wasn’t in the mood for show business.

I aimed my fist at the helicopter fired a few orbs of my symbiote at the windshield. They hit their target easily and splattered on impact, covering it in a black ooze. I figured it would keep it occupied for a while; didn’t want a nice, explosive helicopter crashing into some poor family’s house. Not this time anyways.
“Now as for you…” I turned back to Ashley sounding more than a little confused, “What’s going on here? Did they have you all this time? You got away?”

Ashley
*Above The City*

Everything was going fine with my new friend piloting the helicopter. He was running a standard sweep. Didn’t need to tip off Epsilon just yet.
And then we were hit. “That son of a bitch, pull me in close to that building!” The consistency looked the same alright. Some sort of symbiote projectile. Haven’t seen that little trick for awhile.

As soon as the chopper was close enough I dove out, leaving the pilot to figure out the rest as I got into position at the edge of the roof. “Lets see what this rifle can do.”
Scoped in to the scenery below, I could see new targets were on the way. Quickly approaching what I figured to be Ray. Symbiote suit seemed different but if any symbiote was involved at all in fighting Epsilon, it was him. I didn’t even get a chance to see who he was with when the first armoured truck came into range.

The rifle seemed to operate just like any other I had used before, pulling the bolt brought a round into the chamber. But with that came some new sounds, the reactor or whatever was stuffed into this thing charged up like Iron-man getting ready to take a pot shot, and boy did it sound impressive. The rest was business as usual.
I acquired the target, adjusted for distance and the wind thanks to my altitude, and fired. The resulting sound was a cross between a regular fifty caliber gunshot and a clap of thunder, and the muzzle flash like a bolt of lightning. The shot ripping towards its target, super accelerated by the extra power. “It’s a god damn infantry rail-gun. Holy fuck.” The shot tore clean through the front window of the truck as it approached Ray and whoever he was with, launching itself off the rear of another car and rolling onto its roof. I quickly primed another round and fired, finishing the truck off in a burst of flame and debris. “Yeah. This is mine now.”

Clone
I had no idea how to react. To him, I was Ashley. Her file had said she was close with someone, but that part of the file was always left out of the acclimation and debriefing process when they first wake us.
Clearly he knew her and judging from his body language and distress in his voice, he was the one.
“I’m not sure I am who-“ The entire conversation, or what had started atleast, was cut off by an approaching Epsilon armoured truck. More backup. But as soon as it had come into view, it lost control and hit another car. The truck rolled and slid along on its roof. It wasn’t until I heard the clap of thunder again that I realized the two were linked. The truck burst into flames, condemning those inside to a painful death. Someone else had joined the fight. “I do believe we have a much bigger problem on our hands.”

I noticed the armored truck around the same time she did; the sound of something big and metal effortlessly moving any and all objects out of the way. And then I watched it get ripped apart like it was made out of wet tissue by two well-placed shots from a weapon I hadn’t ever seen before, but was sure I really preferred not to be hit by. The fact that I had an Epsilon helicopter firing at another Epsilon vehicle was…confusing.
“Well, either the shooter up there has terrible aim…or I owe someone an apology...maybe.”

The sound of clashing metal returned; more armored trucks. I could hear at least four coming our way. All probably packed with angry Epsilon troopers. To make matters worse, if any of them report a rogue chopper, air support wouldn’t be too far behind. I turned to Ashley. “A bigger problem? Things are just starting to get fun again!”
I leapt off the rooftop and down towards the streets below. The armor density on those trucks was thick – I knew my current mass wasn’t going to suffice. So I brought out more of the symbiote; more Poison. My suit thickened in mass, back to the size of the form I used in the old days. More muscle, more strength, more risk. Keeping Poison contained to a smaller size was the best way to stay in control. Now, I was going to have to be careful. Careful not to miss the feeling TOO much.

I crashed down onto the hood of the armored truck with such intensity that the whole front collapsed in on itself and the rest of the vehicle had nowhere to go but up ass-end first. It completed its flip and I grabbed the first soldier brave enough to try crawling out and threw him against the wall, leaving a decent impression where he impacted.
The rest of the vehicle was easy to deal with; the under part wasn’t nearly as armored as the rest. I pried it open like a can of sardines, exposing the dazed people inside to my monstrous form. “Oh, we just loooove canned food…” I said whilst filling the inside of the vehicle with more symbiote webbing. I chuckled, flashing them a row of razor-sharp fangs. “Youuuu boys just sit tight. We’ll be back for our snack laterrrr…”

With good kick to make even Leonidas proud, I sent the truck screeching across the road and sidewalk, straight into a building. I hadn’t even realized how much I was missing this much action yet…

Two very well placed shots. A very powerful weapon able to tear through an armoured Epsilon vehicle.
Only two possibilities, either an elite unit was on the field or… no it couldn’t be.
More trucks were coming towards us as these thoughts went through my head and for the first time in my short life, I was afraid. “We really ought to exercise some caution!” It was too late. He was already ripping them apart. Another thunderous shot came from above, the round piercing into the armoured front end of the truck, destroying its engine. Panic could be seen inside the armoured coffin as the truck veered into the front of a building. Is this what the war was like? Carnage and chaos? I let out a small gasp as fragments of memories flashed in my mind. Pinpoint accuracy, greater than any of the clones could ever achieve. Brutal efficiency. It was her. I could manage but one word.

“Mother?”

Ashley
The Symbiote had begun tearing apart at the others that were arriving. Something about the fighting style was familiar, but I suppose all symbiote hosts fought with such ruthlessness. I sent another round down to the street below, the result sending the truck into a building. Whatever this rifle was, it was perfect. Balanced. Power. The perfect instrument for stopping just about anything. I would have to test its limits, but another time. I fired off a few more rounds, the last being on a soft target. I’ve never seen something vaporize like that before, leaving behind a bloody mess of dismembered body parts and red mist. Okay. Enough fun. Time to introduce myself.

I made my way inside the building through the maintenance door on the roof. The building was very well decorated. Some sort of high end apartment building or posh hotel. Either way it definitely wasn’t my style. I miss my apartment back in New York, that dumpy old place was the only home I ever needed.
The building and much of the entire block was flattened during the Civil War.
I thought of many things as I rode the elevator down to the ground floor. I thought about the home my parents had in upstate New York, more memories branched from that. The fight against Aurora in the blazing inferno. My sister, both alive and a spirit. But mostly of my parents, how they were both barely ever home due to work. When they were however, those are my favourite memories. Walks in the forest, the adventure in the cave. Memories of playing in the park with my sister, punching that brat Eric in the face when he picked on Chloe. Even back then I was a fighter.
Its all I’ve ever known. Survive, no matter the price.

The elevator dinged. Ground floor, symbiotes and bad guys.
The lobby was sickeningly upper-class. Marble floors, intricate decorations and statues. An expensive chandelier hung in the center of the lobby. With the exception of the fighting outside, everything was quiet. All except for the man at the desk. Hiding and sniffling.
“Hey.” He gasped at my voice, peeked over the counter, gasped again then hid once more.
“Hey! Where’s my room service!?” All I got in response was a shriek. “Is everybody so god damn incompetent in this city?” I glanced down at my shiny new toy, a small dial had been calling for my attention. So like any rational person, I turned it. All the way to the max. The rifle hummed softly, I could feel the power core within spinning up. Alright. More power. I swung the barrel around, aiming towards the entrance and fired from the hip. The entire length of the barrel lit up like a Christmas as the round charged, exiting and tearing across the room towards the target.
The resulting sound was as deafening as it was glorious, the entire entrance to the building exploded outward in a shower of fragmented glass and metal. “It really is a god damn rail-gun… holy fuck.”
Time to meet the welcoming committee.

Marvel: Blood and Poison Empty
PostSubject: Re: Marvel: Blood and Poison   Marvel: Blood and Poison I_icon_minitimeMon Mar 06, 2017 6:36 pm

It was intoxicating.

The adrenalin, the violence, the destruction; it reminded me of the good’ol days. The days where you could sit back and beat up some bad guys without it all being a big deal. I had no shortage of bad guys now.
They came at me with their fancy guns and other toys. The ones that really stung seemed to be some sort of specialized ammunition; unfortunately for them, none of it was really enough to slow me down. One man I approached managed to empty an entire clip, most of the contents of which had missed me thanks to his shaking, swung his weapon at me desperately like a club. I through his weapon, along with him, into a nearby window. “Hehe… Is that all?” I asked the remaining Epsilon soldiers with a toothy grin, all of which looked hesitant to do anything.

“You want some, big guy?”

I whirled around to face the source of the response, only to find one man cracking his knuckles. He wore some variation of Epsilon armor, though not one I recognized. Although he wore a helmet, I could feel him smiling behind it. I tensed with anticipation. One person singling themselves out in the middle of a fight? This guy was confident because he was good or because he was superhuman.
I lunged forward and swung at him with a large, closed fist. He crossed his arms to block it, force causing his feet to skid back but his stance was otherwise unbroken. With an annoying little chuckle, he grabbed my wrist and threw me a solid twenty feet away and right into a parked car, which smashed under the impact.

At least I knew which one he was now.

I picked myself up, feeling my broken arm already regenerating itself and my torn shoulder repairing. Just in the nick of time too, because this guy was already on my ass. His fist glowed as I moved out of the way of it, and caused the car I had landed on to explode when it found itself on the receiving end. That was when I noticed the gauntlets he was wearing, which was the source of the light…and probably the reason for the exploding automobile.
“Like’em? They made these little toys just for dealing with freaks like you…” he explained when he noticed where I was looking. “Now I get to turn you into a pulping mass-!”
“We don’t think sssso!” I interrupted him with a sharp uppercut to the guy, causing him to take a second to recover, “Thissss just makesss usss more even!”

This time I got to do the throw, and the super soldier got to take a nice flight into some sort of Epsilon armored bus…or carrier. He recovered, although clearly winded, and banged on the vehicle twice. “Hey! Let’s get the freak-shows out here!” he yelled into his comm.

A moment later the carrier opened, and what came out made not only my blood boil, but I felt Poison itself seething with rage. A pack of heavily modified symbiotes began to crawl out the doors and attack. They didn’t seem all that much of a focused attack force at first, but after they noticed me I think they could sense I was different from them; way different. They charged and I readied myself – I wasn’t going to have a repeat of what happened before. This was one part of the old days I was not going to do again.

This time things would be different.

Clone

The fighting had shifted to another street, the Symbiote controlled Ray was leading his own charge against Epsilon.
This left just myself and... myself. The original.

I had watched as the front lobby of a posh downtown hotel exploded outward, a piercing clap of thunder carried along with it. The flame-less explosion settled and one figure emerged.
With a powerful rifle over her shoulder and a slight bounce in her step, the original Ashley walked out of the hotel lobby. "No. Its not possible." I whispered the words but it was ultimately useless. Ashley froze, her eyes likely darting around for the tiny voice.

The serum used on Ashley made her an assassin first, but also a highly efficient tracker. Enhanced sight and hearing, even an enhanced sense of smell to a small degree. All to make her less soldier compared to Captain America and more of a predator. Clearly it was something she was beginning to realize. That, or they had cleaned up her abilities. Purified her. Something Epsilon would have done if they thought she could still be of use to them.

I'm not sure which is worse. A free Ashley, or an Epsilon indoctrinated one.

"I already know where you are. So come on out and I won't hurt you... much." Her words were cold, was this how she always was?
An explosion went off a few streets over that caught her attention just long enough for me to make the stupid choice of trying to run.
What came next was a piercing pain, a gunshot ringing out. Echoing through the empty street. She shot me.

"I knew it! I fucking knew they were cloning me! Assholes!" She broke off into a string of profanities as she walked towards me, now on the ground. "No no, don't move. I want me alive. You that is. Fuck this is confusing!" With her this close now, I could see where all the noise was coming from. It was an Epsilon Advanced Anti-Vehicle Rail Rifle, internally known as a rail gun although both names weren't quite accurate as its based on Stark propulsion weapon technology.

"Who sent you?"
"No one... I came here myself seeking the man in the memories. Your memories."
"You mean that's. Shit. Fuck!"
She grabbed my arm hard and lifted me up.
"Given the rate of potential ability loss with cloning someone like me, that gunshot should heal in about five minutes. Start talking."
She hurried me along down the street, heading towards the next fight as I told my side of the story. Of the Aurora clone and killing the mayor back in New York City. She didn't like that much, cursing more as we moved.
"Alright, how many ummm me's are their?" Her voice had seemed to lighten with curiosity.
"I'm number forty-seven. I don't know how many more, its not something that is shared with us. We are made, we do jobs and then we are disposed of."
"Fuck that's grim."

A few streets over, a new and very different fight was taking place.
"Oh motherfucker."

These symbiotes were all wrong.

I mean, I couldn’t exactly judge anything considering the origins of my own symbiote; but however far I have gone to get where I am, Epsilon had gone a few more steps further. I wasn’t even sure these creatures were alive.
I stomped on one as it lunged at me and its head splattered all too easily as it was crushed into the concrete. No host inside to worry about. Without a host…just what were these things?

An annoying fucking problem, for starters.

They attacked like rabid animals – obviously not bred for a more complex purpose than tearing a target apart. Maybe if it wasn’t me they were put up against, they’d be doing a lot better. Unfortunately for these things, killing symbiotes was something I was very used to.
The lack of a host made them soft, so it was pretty easy to pick one up and rip it to pieces. Didn’t even have to feel guilty about it. It felt like I was putting them out of their misery. It didn’t take long before I standing in a large puddle of symbiote goop. “Toooo eassssy,” I hissed, waiting for the inevitable second round. There had to be more than this. I could hear some having scattered; perhaps in search of other targets.

BOOM.

An explosion went off on the ground level of a nearby building. Hotel maybe? I wondered if that was Ashley’s doing; it certainly wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. At least, not in the old days.

My nostalgia was swiftly interrupted as I felt a pair of tendrils wrap around my wrist. With a hiss I turned to the source, only to find a couple of larger symbiotes standing there – the remainder of the goop from the littler ones being absorbed into their bodies. Now these ones looked seriously buffed up – almost like looking into a couple of mirrors.
“Heh… Not impresssssed. We’ve already done that before….”
The two roared in response. It looked like I was getting my round two after all.

Although they were significantly stronger than before, the two fakers still couldn’t compare. It was sloppy work, whoever had made them – without access to an adrenal source, there was no way these creatures could draw more strength. I could still out-speed them, and out-muscle them too. Grabbing one, I punched it twice in the head and pinned it down with one set of claws while catching the other one’s wrist and biting into its neck with my fangs.
Damn it, these things tasted as bad as they looked.

Ripping its neck out, it tumbled back while I began to punch the one I had pinned again and again after it bit my arm defiantly. I felt an alien fury in me, driving me to rip these things apart. Did Poison feel threatened by their presence? Perhaps it felt how foreign they were and wished to kill them based on instinct. At least we were in agreeance: these things had to be wiped out.
I plunged my claws deep into the false symbiote’s chest, and injected my venom into its system. A special symbiote killer – made specifically for the monster I had been tracking earlier, but I was willing to bet it would work on these guys too. Steam began to ooze from the wound as the cells began to break down inside the creature. Walking over to the other one, a quick slash began the process again.

I didn’t have very much time to observe before I heard a gunshot go off. Louder than usual and, for some reason, I felt anxious. A familiar scent hit me - Ashley’s scent, and A LOT of it.

I tried to find the source, but all I found was charged gauntlet striking me square in the chest. The explosion that formed afterward sent me on a collision course with a nearby wall. I was getting really sick of flying. This time hurt a lot too.
I looked down and saw a large hole in not just my alien suit, but also my own skin and bone blown wide open. I clutched my wound as the pain became more and more intense. I could feel the alien material begin to fill the wound and begin to repair it.

Easily the second worst hole I’ve ever gotten in my chest.

I felt that familiar rage boiling inside of me yet again; it was a good anesthetic for the pain, which only continued to intensify. I knew the kind of fury that went along with this kind of pain, but I kept it bottled down. I wasn’t going to let myself slip that far. Not yet.

I slowly stood and growled, facing my opponent. This fight was going to end as quickly as it started.

This son of a bitch was going to have to come and get me.

Ashley

Symbiotes. Fucking Symbiotes. Two of them came lumbering around the corner as I neared the intersection, dragging my clone along. Yes, a clone. Not only did Epsilon lock me away in a freezer for over year, they also cloned me multiple times. This fine example being number forty seven. Probably put me next to the peas as well.

These Symbiotes seemed to be hunting for something, you'd think they were some sort of wild animal by the way they moved. "Well this is just great." Handing Number Forty-Seven the high powered rifle, I readied my only pistol. "Cover me. And I swear if you try to kill me I will feed you to Ray whenever the hell I find him." She nodded and looked down at the rifle. "Look, just turn the dial up a bit, cycle the next round and fire just like any other rifle."

Without another moments hesitation, I got to work. Doing the best two fingered whistle I could muster, I called out to the little hunting party of Symbiotes. "Over here! You slimy motherfuckers." One in particular must have been insulted by my call as he lunged towards me almost immediately, teeth glimmering in the pale moonlight. Just as I sidestepped his advance, the body vaporized with a crack of thunder. Before I even had the chance to congratulate my other self I felt the slimy tendrils of the next one grab and pull me in. "Hey! Dinner first!" I let him pull me in just enough to fire off three point blank rounds from the loud .45 caliber pistol I had acquired earlier. The Symbiotes head split open and revealed nothing but more Symbiote. The Symbiote wailed and roared from its head wound, staggering back. And that's when I noticed what was so different about them.

No host body.

Just like the alien like Symbiotes back in New York City from over four years ago, but these ones were different somehow. An old pain and anger began to burn deep down, brought up from the old memories. They would still rip and tear all the same.

I lunged forward, screaming as I plunged my fist through the Symbiotes head. My body spinning into a twisting motion and tearing its head off. Slime half way up my arm as I tossed its head to the ground and planted four more bullets into its chest. "Finish that one with the rifle and lets keep moving."

My clone obeyed, another crack of thunder is the headless body turned to mist and bits of slime. These things didn't put up much of fight. But just what was the deal with this clone? If she made it this far on her own she must at least be worth something in a fight. Yet here she was obeying my every command like a dog armed with a rail gun.
"Listen me... you... Fuck! Listen Forty Seven, whatever we come across next we handle together. No more puppy dog orders. I want to see just what my own clone can do, got it?"
She nodded. "Got it. Though I suggest distance, Ray in his symbiotic state seems quite agitated."
All I did was roll my eyes, you have no idea how true that is you poor clone.

Finally around the corner, a new fight was taking place.
With Ray square in the middle.

Well, he came at me.

Three hundred pounds of hulking muscle and tech charged and in a moment we were locked in combat. I blocked a jab from him one time and moved away completely the next; I could hear when his gloves were about to cycle through power for one of his super punches. Had to rely on my reflexes to know which one to avoid.
I couldn’t stay on the defensive for long. Leaping back a little, I caught him with a web-like tendril coming from my palm and yanked him towards me. A swift clothesline after and he was on the ground. Dazed, but not for long, as he already managed to avoid my fist as I struck the ground with enough force to crack it.

Slippery bastard.

He rolled back onto his feet and tried to slug me with another explosive slug, but I was ready this time. Sort of.
I caught his wrist during his follow-through and began to squeeze, feeling the hardware begin to crackle as it was crushed. Unfortunately, this had the unfortunate side-effect of causing a particularly strong electric current to course from the glove and into me. Poison didn’t like that one bit; electricity was an annoying weakness. It took considerable willpower, but I managed to crush the gauntlet completely. It exploded after, naturally, blinding me momentarily and letting him get a chance to kick me square in the chest.

I fell back hard and growled; normally a hit like that wouldn’t knock me down, but that area still tender from before. I started to pick myself up, but my opponent wasn’t keen on letting me recover. He struck me hard in the face; just the super strength this time, but it still hurt like hell. One hit followed me another, I could hear him yelling some sort of profanity while he hit me but for the life of me I couldn’t hit back. That damn shock from before still had Poison stunned. All I could so was sit back and wait for it too to get some sense beaten back into it – assuming I wasn’t completely pulverised first. Another super-charged punch from his other, still functioning gauntlet, and I was sent skidding across the ground.
That one was really going to sting in the morning.

All I could do was lie there while he walked up to me at first, but I could feel some strength starting to return. Just in time, too, because another hit from that gauntlet was really not going to feel good. I slowly stood up, doing my best to steady myself. Had to time my counter just right.

“Guess we weren’t as even as you thought, huh?” he taunted me.

“We think you talk too much,” I spat back, my vision going a little blurry.

He laughed; seemed to think he had already won. Good. I let him grab me by my neck, let my symbiote thicken along his fingers to prevent him from suffocating me. He coiled his closed fist back, the gauntlet glowing blue with power, and executed his final blow. It was now or never.

SLICE.

It was sickening sound as I cut his arm clean off from above the elbow, my own wrist the shape of a large and serrated blade. He howled in pain, clutching the heavily bleeding wound. With his grip on me off, I grabbed him by his neck and lifted him off the ground. I could sense his fear through the smell of his blood and the sound of his heart racing; his adrenal cortex seemed too tempting…delicious, even.

Delicious?

Shit.

I tried to drop him. Tried to get that intrusive impulse out of my head. But the damn symbiote wouldn’t let me. It was angry, and hungry, and I wasn’t in any better of shape. My grip tightened and he began to gasp for air in response. It was like music to my ears…except that it wasn’t. Damn, that’s what really sucked about having another consciousness in your head. My huge maw slowly opened and I saw the terror in his eyes.

And then I saw hers.

Standing across the street was Ashley. Ashley and…another Ashley. Wait, what?
There was a flood emotion I got just from looking at her, and good thing too, because that was just what I needed to overload Poison and get some control back and inject myself with a mild tranquilizer from that handy watch I wore under the suit.

I dropped my disarmed opponent and gave him a good kick in the face for good measure, knocking him out cold. At least he’d be thankful he was alive.

The tranquilizers did their thing too, because I could feel Poison doped up just enough let me take the reigns back completely. I still wasn’t sure what to make of my double-vision, though. Maybe it was the drug? Or did I got hit in the head too many times. One Ashley was the one I had seen earlier and the other looked…way more pissed off. At least that one was more familiar. Still made my head hurt more than it already did.

“Ash…?” I asked, stepping towards her…well, them. “What…is going on here?”

Ashley

By the time we had gotten around the corner the fight was already in full swing. Ray was up against one really bad looking dude, like enhanced bad. The clone kept insisting we intervene, she was really keen on getting answers from Ray but I knew him. He was a tough asshole. My tough asshole.
"Look just secure the damn perimeter alright! Fucking hell."
All the while the fight was reaching its climax. "Aww shit... throw me that damn rifle!"

The Symbiote, whatever his name was now, it looked like it was winning. Ray never liked talking about living with basically another mind inside his own. Symbiotic relations were something else entirely but I could relate to a degree.

Forty-Seven tossed me the rifle and I was getting ready to take a shot when suddenly I no longer had to. The big dude previously being held up in the air gasping for breath was now on the ground and just gasping now.

"What... is going on here?" Damn he sounded rough, looked worse.
Resting the butt of the rifle in against me hip, I motioned Forty-Seven to stick close.
"Well first of all, you're a fucking idiot. Secondly, yeah no your an idiot."
I was still full of rage and Ray didn't deserve that, I was the one who left without a goodbye after all. Changing the subject, I looked past him at the big guy still laying on the ground. "Friend of yours?"

Yup, she was definitely pissed.

Honestly, I was too stunned to really reply with any sort of snarky comment – I was sure I’d come up with some really good lines later too. Instead I let my mass shrink to something more…well, human-ish. Made the suit give me my nice open-zipped jacket again too. Had to look presentable, Poison would tell me later. Asshole.
It was probably for the best, because she seemed eager to change the topic. I followed her gaze towards the dude with the super gloves.
“Oh, him? Nah, we were just getting to know each other,” I explained, my chest still aching, “Has a hell of a right hook, though.”

I glanced back at her and her…quieter self. Who was she? A twin? No, that wasn’t weird enough. Clone? Much better. I was willing to bet the angrier one was the real deal; I could chalk that up to personal experience. That explained why the other one seemed to so confused before. You’d think I’d be able to pick up on this stuff by now.

“So, cloning?” I sighed, “That doesn’t surprise me one bit. Now what do we do with another you?”

"Yeah, clone. Something like that." The whole thought of it still made my head spin, that they had done this not just once but at least forty seven times.
I glanced over at my clone. Sure she looked like me, but the attitude was way off. It was very unsettling all the same.
"She'll come with us for now, and when I don't need her anymore... well."
By my count I still had one round left in the pistol. Without a seconds hesitation I brought it up and fired, the bullet missing Ray by inches. The big guy with one arm screamed with new found pain.

"Now, I suggest we get out of this city before more of these assholes show up. Unless you have more plans with your new friends."

“Geez! A little warning next time!” The sound of the bullet going off was still ringing in my ears.
It had gotten quiet. Well, all quiet except for the one-armed man squirming on the ground. But there didn’t seem to be any sign of Epsilon soldiers or symbiotes around anywhere. At least Ashley seemed keen on getting out as well.

“No, I’ve had enough of these guys to last a lifetime. So, do you have a ride or what? Maybe another helicopter stashed away?”

I walked off without another word. As much as I always appreciated Ray and his humour, I had no patience for it right now. After a few moments I could hear the footsteps of them following me as I walked the street.
Plenty of cars to choose from but no, this one had to be old enough to not have any kind of GPS or sophisticated computer system in it. The downside to every new car now was that Epsilon could easily track them if they wanted to.

Welcome to the connected world of technology brought to you by Epsilon.

Two blocks down was a nice full size station wagon from the seventies, your typical blocky American family hauler. It was perfect. "Alright kids time for a road trip." I mumbled to myself. Another great thing about the old cars was how easy they were to break into, enhanced or not. A light tug on the door was all I needed to bypass the lock.
Another quick tug stripped the bottom half of the cover off the steering column and within a few minutes I had it started.

"Alright kids next stop, not here."
