Three years have passed since the complete destruction of the Covenant Hierarchy at the hands Master Chief Petty Officer John 117. Though the Outer-Colonies won't be reclaimed for many years, some of the Inner-Colonies are beginning to return to what they once were. Humanity has survived its darkest journey, many lives were lost but many were saved.
Though there are still bands of those who still believe in the Great Journey and the ideals of the Covenant still exist, there number are slowly falling at the hands of the UNSC.

A new enemy looms on the horizon...

PostSubject: Re: Halo Legacy   Halo Legacy I_icon_minitimeWed Feb 24, 2010 10:15 am

The sun was mid sky, its heat radiating off the ground and rooftops.
I was working on the test data results for the new armour, compiling the data for ONI.
This was something I'd grown used to... a desk job wasn't how I'd planned to live my 'retirement' but it sure beat sitting on my ass doing nothing all day.

A message popped up on the screen.
I moved the mouse over to the message and opened it.
All it said was "Look out the window."

"Damn junk mail." I said to myself, deleting the message and resuming my work.
Since joining up with ONI to complete the Spartan X Project, my work days seemed to become longer and longer. I've been away from home for the past four months now... calling Alicia every chance I got.
I returned to my work.

A minute later, another message popped up on the screen.
"Matt, don't make me come up there."
I instinctively grabbed the pistol off my desk and walked over to the window.
Parked at the side of the road was one of the UNSC's new M13 SOLAV Warthogs... the ones I helped design. Standing beside it was someone I hadn't seen in almost two years.
"Alice? What the hell are you doing here?"
She didn't answer, just motioned for me to come downstairs.
I grabbed the laptop, put it in my bag and tucked the pistol under my belt.
I ran down the stairs, stopped by the fridge to grab a bottle of water before going out the front door.
Alice hadn't moved an inch.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Hello to you too Matt."
"Sorry... I'm just surprised to see you."
"Yeah, its been too long. I'm here on official Office of Naval Intelligence business, top priority."
I somehow knew instantly what she was talking about... a ship three years in the making and built specifically for the new Spartan X Project... the Vermilion.
ONI had kept even me in the dark about its development and much like the original, Courtney was directly involved.

"Well then what are we standing around for? Lets put the pedal to the medal!"
Alice walked around to the driver side, opened the door and got in... closing it behind her. The 'hogs engine fired up, its roar more distinct then the regular warthogs.
I got in the passenger side and we were off.

A familiar AI was projecting from a display in the dashboard.
"Matt!!"
"Well theres another familiar face... ONI treating you well Courtney?"
"Meh... I still prefer the UNSC. ONI's too uptight about everything."
She hadn't changed at all... though borderlining on her seventh year, she was still the same.

The trip lasted ten minutes.
"Welcome to my home for the past four years Matt."

The ONI California headquarters looked like any other ONI facility from the front.
Behind it sat a large open field used for prototype testing and a ship yard... but it was empty.
We went through the front doors and passed through ten security checkpoints before arriving at an elevator.
"All that for one elevator?"
"Just wait... you'll see."
The elevator went down deep into the ground I assumed.
The doors opened and we were greeted by nothing but complete darkness.
"Welcome to the crypt... everything down here is classified and extremely top secret. Every prototype ONI has ever worked on is down here."
I said nothing as the lights slowly came on, revealing the true nature of the room.
Rows upon rows of sealed containers and crates.
"I don't see any ships in here?"
"Be patient... for once at least."
Alice laughed lightly as we walked the length of the room.

We stopped at the opposite end at what I thought was a wall... oh how very wrong I was.
The giant wall split down the middle, blinding white light piercing the darkness of the room.

My eyes quickly adjusted, revealing the most amazing ship I had ever seen... the Vermilion.

Intro music for the Vermilion (Taken from Mass Effect 2)

Though it beared little in common with the original Vermilion, there was no doubt in my mind.
The only significant difference was the abscense of the MAC cannons.

I was completely speechless.
"I'm guessing you like it?"
I didn't answer... just kept walking towards the Vermilion.
Seeing her brought back so many memories... both the good and the bad.
Though bearing the standard ONI Prowler black paint, the original Vermilion emblem was just behind the bridge area... the new emblem near the tail.

Three people approached us and I was brought back to reality.
"You must be the Matthew Daniels we've heard soo much about. I'm David Turner, one of the designers for this work of art."
He was about 5'9", slim build with grey hair and green eyes.
To his right was Proffesor Isabella Pressly. 5'7", medium length blonde hair, brown eyes and a scar on her left cheek. She was the lead scientist in charge of the Spartan X Project, I had worked with her on multiple occassions while developing the augments that were to be used.
To Davids left was Spartan X-01 Jason Rodriguez, my second in command for the Spartan X Project and Commanding Officer for Phoenix Team. He stood at just over six feet tall with short black hair dark brown eyes and olive toned skin consistent with a brazillian. A distinct scar ran across his right eye and down his cheek, stopping at his chin
Both David and Isabella were wearing white lab coats with ONI logos on them.
Jason was wearing UNSC off duty casual wear.

Leaning against the far wall behind them were X-02 Jennifer Midwest and X-03 Frank Razinski, both part of Phoenix Team... my elites of the Spartan X's.

Jennifer stood at just under 6 feet with medium length auburn hair, blue eyes and a light tan and Frank stood at 6'3" with dark green eyes, short brown hair and pale skin.

"She's beautiful... better than I ever could have imagined."
"Thanks Matt, I'm glad you like it."

Halo Legacy Empty
PostSubject: Re: Halo Legacy   Halo Legacy I_icon_minitimeThu Feb 25, 2010 4:26 am

Another fine morning of drills always woke me up. Even though I was a super soldier, I could never feel the need to not hit the firing range and practice honing my skills. I felt that if I didn't I'd just get sloppy, which was a scary thought to me. Plus I had to shake the feeling of getting that new augment 2 weeks ago; the after affects were completely gone, but I just felt safer to practice more.
After three hours of training, practicing at the range, and going over my list of recent mission, I walked out to the front of the training facility.
Surprisingly, I found Admiral Chenkov their, in his uniform. Instantly I saluted, as he returned it back.

"Good to see you, sir."

"It's always healthy to see a friend again, hows life been treating you Richard?"

"Could never feel more at home when I'm at the range, although I do miss it back on...Reach."

The Admiral exhaled, "yea, but let's put that behind us now, look forward to new and better things."

"Sir? Just out of curiosity, but what made you want to come here? Not that I'm unhappy to see you."

He snapped his fingers, "Right, right, Dr. Jaferson has the new armor prepped and ready for your next mission. Soon we'll be back on the Mail Man."

The Admiral walked up to a warthog and got into the drivers seat. It was a transport hog, just like the ones used in war. i got into the passengers seat and we sped off, as Chenkov drove calmly with a cigar in his mouth. The pounding of dirt and grave against the tires was the only sound that filled the air.

"Oh just to remind you, this is a fairly large ONI facility," he then whispered so low, that I almost couldn't hear him, "very large facility, actually..."

I wasn't a fan of ONI at all, but they always had to be in every business.

"Some Spartans from the Spartan X project will also be there, something about a ship, but those damn ONI guys never spill a secret, not even to an Admiral..."

The facility came into view, the nice very sleek ONI building reflecting the sunlight. We got out and Dr. Jaferson greeted us, her hair starting to take on a greyish color.

"Ah, Richard, great to see you, I imagine that training facility is still holding up?"

"I try not to break to many things there, getting better at it too ma'am." I saluted when I was in front of her, "nothing like the one back on Reach" I finished.

She nodded and then greeted the Admiral, as we started walking by through the checkpoints, until we stopped at a small elevator. The doctor punched in a few codes until the door opened up. We got it and then took it down.

"Most important ONI projects are down here; my project wasn't normally here, but it had to be moved. They always try to peek into my business, those damn bastards."

"What'd I tell ya?" The Admiral sighed.

We reached the bottom, as the elevator door opened. The elevator led straight to her office, which was pretty big, sleek, and clean.
Although, I heard a loud door being slowly opened up. That was probably the Spartan Xs.

"Over here."

The doctor entered a new room, one with a large sealed tube.

"I just got to run a few diagnostics before I open this up..."

After that, she entered in a code, which then opened up the container. The seal was loosened, and some kind of gas jetted out and then mixed with the air.

"I introduce to you, the MJOLNIR Power Assault Armor Mark VII," she pointed towards the tube.

Inside was a new set of armor, bearing resemblance to the Mark VI, but with some differences. It looked like it had a sleek, lighter, build to it. It looked...dangerous, which was always a plus. The color was a olive, with the Army's tanned camoflouge mixed in with it. There was steel blue detailing on the left shoulder and leg; I guess they knew my favorite color.

"So when do we get take for the maiden voyage?"
Not bothering to hide my enthusiasm.
"As soon as we run the third system check and hear back from Dr. Jaferson."
Proffesor Pressly's voice seemed slightly on edge when she spoke... odd for her.
"Mr.Daniels... Mr.Rodriguez, If you'd follow me please."
She left our small gathering and walked off towards Jennifer and Frank, who were standing at attention now.
I followed her with Jason following to my right.

"I've heard alot about you sir... its an honour to serve with you."
"As am I, and please call me Matt... I was never one for formalities."

We stopped beside Proffesor Pressly.
Frank quickly snapped to attention and saluted me, Jennifer did not.
"At ease Frank... and please don't do that anymore, were Spartans not Marines."
"Sorry sir... I didn't mean to..."
"No its fine... I've just never been the one to bother with formalities, call me Matt."

He nodded.
"Jennifer, its good to see you."
"Yeah, been awhile hasn't it."
"A year give or take."
These three weren't here by chance. Jason, Frank and Jennifer are the best of the Spartan X's.
Having personally helped with the training for the Spartan X's, I knew who was good at what... the Phoenix Team are my best, my elite.

Proffesor Pressly motioned us towards the door and we entered what I could only assume was her office.
It was much more mechanical looking then I would have thought. Computer screens were alight with strings of programming data and test results for many experiments.
At the far end were thirteen sealed containers similar in shape and design to Cryo pods.
All but four of them were completely empty and each pod was labelled from X-00 to X-12.
In them was what would be our second skin, our lives.
"Wait for the pods to flash green before approaching them."
She tapped away at a keyboard and one by one the pods began to vent there contents.
A liquid drained down into the bottom followed by a gas from four ports, two on each side.
X-03 flashed green and the pod opened, followed by X-02 and X-01.
X-00 was still draining as Jason, Frank and Jennifer acquired there armour and began putting it on.

"Before you say anything Matt, I had to take a few extra steps for preserving yours because we used it for the prototype testing. There all completely sanitized and with the exception of yours, there all brand new."

The pod flashed green and it slowly opened... dramatic effect I assume.
I pulled the armour out of the pod, still slightly wet from the decon fluids and began putting it on.
Just as I was about to place my helmet on, Proffesor Pressly handed a small chip to me.
I inserted the chip into the back of the helmet and put it on.

"Home sweet home... feels good to be back."

A man entered the room, standard ONI lab coat and nothing remarkable.
My helmet picked up on his bio signs, he had ran here.
"Pro... Proffesor Pressly... Dr. Jaferson sent me to tell you that Richards just picked up his armour."
"Thank you."
She turned back to me.
"Matt, Officer Roberts will take you to meet Richards... I believe you two have met before?"
So Richards is here? I haven't seen him since the Gematria brought us back to Earth three years ago.
"Alright, lead the way Roberts."
Officer Roberts turned and went back towards the entrance to the giant white room, back into the crypt.

"Alright Phoenix Team lets move out, switch to shadow."
The other three vanished from the sight of a normal human, but not mine. The SX HUD system allowed us to be able to see each other while the camo system was active. It used a built in system in the helmet that filtered through the photo-reflection process.
"Matt, I'm assuming your not going to follow Officer Roberts... Dr. Jaferson's office is on left in the far corner."
I nodded and led the others out into the white room where the Vermilion was in the middle of an engine system check.
The almost silent purr of the thrusters was one of the best sounds a ship could make... aside from the double bang of a twin MAC cannon weapon system.

Fast and silent we entered the crypt followed the left wall, sticking to the shadows despite our cloak system being active was natural habit for Spartans. It also aided the SPI cloak technology in the armour, which despite providing a perfect cloak to the naked eye, still had its flaws at times.

A light was shining through an open door.
I ordered Phoenix Team to hold, there green lights flashed in acknowledgement on my HUD.

I then ordered Frank and Jennifer to each side of the door and Jason to follow me in.
The lights flashed green again as Frank and Jennifer took positions outside the door.
Jason covered my six as we approached the door, entered and turned to press our backs against the wall.
I ordered Jason to hold, light flashed green.

I stepped away from the wall and towards Richards, coming up behind him and tapping him on the right shoulder.

"It's good to see you Matt," I said looking over the diagnostics of my armor.

I turned and nodded at him and his team, as they all saluted to me and the Admiral. We returned it back, but then I moved in to shake his hand.

"I see you've gotten some new upgrades, and members."

"Times have changed, what can I say?"

I nodded in agreement, he was right.

"Richard, the armor is ready, if you could step into this room, I just need to give it a few more tweaks with it on," Dr. Jaferson led me back to the room where the armor was as the door behind is closed.

She motioned for me to go in front of the armor, but instead of putting the armor on myself I just let the machine do it. The armor had some upgrades I saw, increased strength and speed; the targeting system was perfected, my HUD seemed more complete. I noticed, when putting on the helmet, that there was empty port on the side of it, not to big, but noticeable.
What seemed like ceramic plating jutted out of the knuckle area of my armor; I looked up in question at Jaferson.

"Just slam those in I'll tell you what their for."

I did what she had told me to, as I slapped the ceramic plating in. They aligned into the knuckles of my armor, and then sealed itself. I felt the the system come online; it seemed to boost my melee capabilities.

"As you may have noticed, that plating is circuited through your armor, it will grant better melee capabilities in combat, which should prove useful and here," she went into a crate and pulled out, what seemed like an advanced radio set. She walked towards me and placed it in the gap of my helmet that I saw earlier. It went in, screwed itself in from the inside and then sealed itself.

"This will allow for advanced communications, allowing no EMP, static, or anything like that to interfere; enemies also will not be able to listen or intercept any conversation you hold with any other team member, base, and so on. You will also be happy to know that you can create an extremely small EMP wave from it to cause other headsets or communications on an enemy to become static and harder to hear."

I nodded and walked back outside; the others were there talking to each other. The Admiral let out a loud whistle, "Thats something now ain't it? We almost ready for the mission?"

"In just a moment, I just have to make sure if his upgrades work...the only thing we need to check is that radio set, the melee ceramic circuitry is already up and running."

I nodded, and then looked at the Spartan Xs; I turned on the extremely small EMP wave. The Spartans started tapping there helmets.

"Doctor, the-"

She cut them off, "it's alright, Richard it works."

I turned off the EMP wave, and they stopped as they understood what had happened.

"One last thing, Richard...Base Team should be here momentarily to meet you at the Pelican, their armor is already set and ready. We'll be awaiting to board the Mail Man whenever your ready Admiral."

Dr.Jaferson then turned to me.
"The Vermilion is to meet the Mail Man in planetary orbit near the Cairo, there you will await further orders for the mission."

I snapped a quick salute and turned to Phoenix Team.
"You heard the Doctor, lets get this show on the road... I guess I'll see you later Richard?"
"Looks that way don't it... its good to see you again."
"Yeah... we'll have time to catch up later."
He nodded and we snapped a quick salute to the Admiral before turning to head towards the Vermilion.

The lift brought us into the belly of the beast, just outside the cargo hold.
"We'll have time to check everything out later Matt... Alice wants you up on the bridge."
"Alright, Phoenix Team dimissed."
Phoenix dispersed, heading down a hallway to the right.
It was then that I realized that the Vermilions deck layout was almost identical to the original, only slightly scaled down due to her slightly smaller overall size.

I arrived at the bridge.
It was silent but not for long, as the bridge crew broke into cheers as soon as I entered.
I realized it immediatly, the bridge crew was the exact same crew from the original Vermillion... all except Miranda Keyes.
"Welcome back home."
Alice was standing at the centre of the bridge, a smile on her face.
"Wait, don't tell me... Alice is Commander for the Vermilion right?"
"How do you figure that?"
"That uniform is a dead give away."
Alice walked over to me.
"Welcome home Matt."
Without her having to ask, I turned me head and she pulled the chip from the back and inserted it in to one of the consoles in the center row of computer terminals.

Courtney's image popped out from the projector and began walking the length of the computer terminals the ran the entire width of the bridge.
"And before you ask, this was my idea."
She did a slow spin and tossed her hair to the side.
I started laughing, followed immediatly by everyone else.
"I forgot how much I missed you guys, all of you... its good to be back."
"Yeah just don't set yourself on fire this time okay?"
"I'll try... but I can't promise anything."
Courtney began to laugh but stopped almost as soon as she started.
"Oh I almost forgot... and yes it was my idea."
Her image disappeared from atop the terminals.
As she disappeared, the floor lit up with lines like a circuit board then faded to the point where they were barely visible.
There was a flicker of light in front of me and without warning a life sized version of Courtney appeared.
Standing at about 5'6", she was much more realistic looking than her miniature version.
The only thing that gave her away was that you could faintly see through her... almost a solid image but not quite.
"Surprise!"
"Wow... just wow. Your ideas are pretty good, anything that actually helps us directly or are they all for you?"
"This one is more helpful than you think Matt, I can walk through any part of the ship and help with any of the systems more effectively... also helps with morale... something I picked up from Cortana I guess, though I prefer clothing."
"Anything else?"
"Not right now, we don't have enough room to test the engines... I've run though simulation multiple times... she's fast."
"Well there's one way to find out right? Lets get her up in the air."
The bridge was buzzing with activity as all the system came online one by one.
Weapons came online, followed closely by the shield system.
It was only once everything was online that the engines came to life.

"ONI flight control tower this is CFV 666 Vermilion, permission to leave the crypt bay."
"Vermilion this is flight control, permission granted. Please wait for green light to proceed."

After three very long minutes, the ceiling above us had completly opened and the green light flashed on.
The Vermilion began to rise slowly out of the ground and into the sunlight for the first, the sun shining off the new armour plating like a mirror.
"All systems are green, all crew stand by for initial burn phase... there new engines so I suggest holding on to something."
Just as Courtney warned, the engines kicked in with a bang loud enough to shatter any window in the area... good thing the ONI facility was almost entirely underground.

Anthony, who was in charge of monitoring the shields and radar was knocked backwards from the force of acceleration. I instinctively caught him before he hit the floor.

The g-forces subsided as our acceleration rate began to slow.
"Initial burn phase complete, setting course for Cairo station."
The door to the bridge opened and I turned to see Proffesor Pressly come through it.
"I assume your enjoying yourself Courtney."
"Of course Proffesor... you get one initial burn phase, may as well make it a good one."
Proffesor Pressly turned to me.
"Before you ask Matt, I'm here to monitor your mission. I want to see you and the Spartan X's in action."
"Sounds good, need anything?"
"No that's fine, I'll be down in engineering if you have any questions."

She left just as quickly as she entered.

The Vermilion had just left the outer atmosphere, the new Cairo station came into view.

Anno 'Rhcul:

"They are called the Fist of Sangheilios. An ironic name, considering their dishonerable acts." I began.

I surveyed the lance before me. There was my Special Operations operatives, including my second-in-command, and friend, Vera 'Zenor. But there was also a crowd of human marines. The threat we were up against was indeed a threat to both the Sangheili and the humans.

"They have taken extremist acts to break the alligence of the Sangheili-" I looked to my operatives. "And humanity." I looked to the marines.

"Therefore, to mantain honor, and to keep strength in the alliengence, we must burn these terrorists from the galaxy." I wasn't sure how well the briefing was going with the human marines. I'd only had to brief Sangheili and Unggoy operatives before now. However, I was eager to preform the joint operation.

"They are holding out in an old human station, one that they have repaired after the war. It is equipped with several defenses. You have already been given information on what to expect. They are unshielded, but equipped with a variaty of plasma weaponry. This shall not be easy. But we shall persevere. As the Sangheili have, as humanity has. Get to your stations. You are dismissed." I stepped down as the SpecOps operatives and the marines dispersed. Vera walked up to me.

"I'm worried, Anno." She said, as she watched them leave. "They have been instructed to work together, but shall they? I do not want old wounds reopened."

"Do not worry, Vera. They shall. I have faith in them."

Soren ‘Kairom:

I paced around the room, every muscle in my body was screaming to do something. My mind was fixated on combat, I had to see some action and quick. I held my helmet at my side, It was time for it to see its first blood.

“If I don’t squeeze the life out of something soon I will be forced to cut off an Unngoy’s arms and legs and throw it in a large tank of water” I said to myself, out loud.

The Special Operations Commander, Anno “Rhcul, quickly made his way over to me. He had just been talking to his second in command, Vera, the two seemed almost inseparable.

“Please brother, be patient” He said sternly then leaned in close so that only I could hear, “Your making the humans nervous”
“I had nearly forgotten the humans” I said, then took a quick glance at a nearby group, “You don’t think they’d notice a missing brother or two?”

Anno stared at me in horror and I let out a loud laugh. I wasn’t known for jests and Anno must’ve thought I was serious.

“Don’t worry” I said, still chuckling to myself, “I wont spoil your precious humans, after all, I’m here to do the exact opposite”

Suddenly I was reminded of why I was here my blood began to boil.

“Treacherous fools!” I shouted, “how dare they attempt to betray years of diplomatic resources to establish a peaceful alliance with the humans!”

After hearing the seriousness of my tone Anno relaxed and then roared in agreement. Soon all the other Sangheili, myself included, roared together as if taking an oath to a powerful promise.

I was in the process of roaring my agreement, when the voice of an Unggoy soon echoed into communications. I recongnized the voice. Rudap was one of the few Unggoy capable of focusing on such a job. He was suprisingly well educated and intelligent, having previously served as a personal servent for a Zealot. Currently, his job was to announce the preparation of mission assets.

"Phantoms two through four ready, Commander 'Rhcul." He said, his squeaky voice slightly distorted in through the communications system. It was calm and collected, a tone rarely heard from an Unggoy.

"Good." I replied. I turned to the others. "Three Special Operations Sangheili and one marine squad per Phantom. It is time to end these fools." I finished, Vera and myself turning to proceed to the hanger.

"Richard, if you'll come this way; the pelican is waiting."

I followed Dr. Jaferson, with the Admiral next to me. Once out front, I saw the pelican, and immediately noticed my team.
Nicole was leaning on the pelican, while Charlie was sitting inside it sharpening his knife. They stood up and saluted to me, the Admiral, and the doctor. I returned the salute and let the others go in before me.

"Everyone's in, let's hit the road," the pelican slowly started to take off and then flew towards the Mail Man.

Charlie glanced at me, "It's been awhile, although our next opposition might not be exactly all covenant..."

"Our mission is to infiltrate a drone hive and take it out, and this is a big one. I'll have Katherine upload the schematics into your HUD. These damn bugs can't leave anyone alone," the Admiral leaned back in his seat and sighed.

"Just like old times," Nicole said, "haven't seen action in awhile huh?"

I nodded, "it's been to long..."

The ship soon came into view and I could through the cockpit that it was huge. It also had that clean and sleek, but rough feature.

"500 centimeters of Titanium - A armor, coated with special ceramite plating onto it. Enough to hold it's own against a few covenant cruisers if you play your cards right. The extra armor acts like as if it had a shield, maybe more resistant too, only down side is it doesn't recharge. "

"The armament?"

"2 MAC guns, 20 over sized archer missile pods with 50 missiles in each, 200 regular archer missile pods with 50 missiles in each, multiple 50mm Defense Guns, 6 advanced prototype twin defense gauss guns, 2 fenris warheads, 2 shiva nuclear warheads, 2 HAVOK nuclear warheads, and 5 fusion rockets."

"This thing must be a damn slug."

"Not quite, it has twin linked advanced prototype Deuterium engines. Although it still may not be faster than any frigate or light cruiser, it's still pretty damn fast for something with this armament...something that should surprise an enemy. It has a Fujikawa drive and thanks to the advanced reactor and engines it can go as fast as a frigate through slipspace without slowing down."

"What does it carry?"

"We had to sacrifice some room for all the weapons, but I'll just skip the details and estimate it. It carries 12 long-swords, 52 pelicans, 3 clarion spy drones, 100 warthogs, 100 mongooses, 2 elephants, 52 scorpions, 100 hornets, 80 falcons, HEVs, 4000+ Army Troopers, occasionally some ODSTs and..." he pointed at Nicole, Charlie, and me, "you guys."

I couldn't help myself, but let out a loud whistle.

"Yea, shes a beauty," the Admiral said quietly, "although the only downside is, shes not as fast as other ships and if she ever goes down...theres going to be one helluva an explosion, but she makes up for that in weapons and armor."

The pelican soon docked into the Mail Man and I got a chance to see the inside of it. It looked like other cruisers on the inside, but with differences. It felt unique and different, something I felt I was going to enjoy and grow onto. We made our way to the bridge, passing the occasional Army trooper or, engineer, or crew member.

"Admiral on deck!"

Everyone stood up to salute the Admiral then me. They were all new people that I haven't met before.

"Don't worry, I could only afford to get the best crew, and in addition their great people.", he then turned to someone, "Jenkins, plot a course to Cairo station nice and slow, we're meeting up with the Vermillion for our next mission."

"Aye sir."

The ship rumbled to life, having a clean, but mean, engine sound. Cairo station came into view shortly; the Vermillion was already there.

The Bridge went to the com station, "Vermillion, this is the Mail Man, we're plotting a course to Cairo Station right now, for additional pick ups. Whenever we're all ready, we'll set a course to our mission."

((OOC: I edited some stuff on my unsc cruiser, mail man thing. I added some stuff to it and also took away some stuff, but i edited it in the halo disclaimer.))

I leapt into the same Phantom as Anno and Vera. I saw several Marines already in, I growled quietly so only one of them heard and then I put on my helmet. The Phantoms took off and I sat as close to the cock-pit as possible.

"About time we got this started" I said looking at Vera.

She didn't respond and I didn't bother pushing. I felt the Phantoms push off the ground, and for once I relaxed. I was always calm before the storm.

"Mail Man, this is Courtney... AI construct aboard the Vermilion. You just came up on our radar now. Were currently docked with the Cairo and are picking up supplies and assets, once the UNSC Gematria arrives we'll be clear to proceed."

Courtney finished her reply before turning back to me.

"You should head down to the air lock and meet the rest of the Spartan X's... they should be on board any moment now."

"Alright, I'll be back in a few then."

I left the bridge and made my way down to the airlock, taking the elevator down to the cargo bay.

Once I reached the cargo bay, I heard the faint sound of music.
Entering the already fully loaded bay, I followed the sound of the music over to where the Pelican's were docked.
All of them were the brand new completely redesigned models... except for one on the end.

I approached the battle scarred Pelican to find the source of the music, as well as someone working on the Pelican.

Pride and Joy - Stevie Ray Vaughan

He looked up as I approached.
"Afternoon Commander, just patchin up a fuel line... she'll be ready when you need her. Names Jeff by the way."
He stood up and shook my hand.

He must've seen the look on my face.
"Don't worry, she may be old and beat up looking but she's the best damn pelican on the ship... fly circles around any these fancy new ones any day."

"I'll take your word for it."

He nodded and returned to his work.

I walked back over to the other side of the bay, through a hallway and stopped beside two marines standing near the air lock.

"They arrived yet?"
"No sir not yet, should be here any minute now."

As if on command, the first of the Spartan X's entered the air lock passageway, the Commanders of Panther, Falcon and Viper team.

Robert, Joanna and Rachel stopped in front of me.
"Its good to see you guys again, Courtney will show you the way to your quarters."

Without a word, the three of them nodded and left. The remaining Spartan's boarded the Vermilion shortly after and once the rest of the marines and some extra ground vehicles were accounted for we were ready to go.

The Mail Man, slowed down before docking.

I stayed at the bridge as I noticed the crew on the station importing equipment. They rolled in 30 more scorpions, 53 more warthogs, 6000 crates of weaponry for the troopers, flew in 23 more falcons, and they restocked all the ammunition on the ship. And to finish it off, one of our crew exported a package from our most recent mission.

With that, the Mail Man fully stocked, manned, and filled.

"Our troop count is at 4332, we're now waiting for UNSC Frigate Gematria and UNSC Marathon class Shackler's Revenge."

"Roger, we'll need all the help we can get for after this mission, " the Admiral said quietly, I was curious as to why, but I never pushed the subject unless deemed necessary.

"Richard, the weapons cache is docked and ready, I suggest you pick out your selection."

I nodded, and made my way towards the armory.

Ten minutes after we had docked, the UNSC Gematria came out of Earth's atmosphere pulling up along side the Vermilion.

"Vermilion this is Captain Fredrick Harris of the Gematria, we are prepped and ready."
"Gematria this is Commander Matthew Daniels, hows she been treatin you since I was last on board?"
"Well I'll be damned... Matt is that you?"
"Sure is, its good to hear from you Fred."
"Yeah, same here... Alicia there to?"
"No... she's retired, taking care of our daughter."
"Oh that's right, send me regards to her would ya."
"I'll be sure to next time I talk to her."

Another 5 minutes passed before the fourth ship arrived.

"UNSC Vermilion, Mail Man and Gematria this is acting captain of the UNSC Shackler's Revenge Vice Admiral William Gerard. My apologies for being late, we were without a Captain so I was forced to step in the last minute. Shackler is stocked and ready."

"Shackler this is Courtney, AI construct aboard the Vermilion, We just got you on visual now. Were awaiting further orders from ONI before proceeding."

"Copy that Vermilion, we are on stand by until further orders are given."

Shackler's Revenge came into view on the starboard side, its brand new armour shining in the sun.

"Is everyone ready? We're plotting a course for Earth's atmosphere. We're to big to land planetside."

I finally made my way to the armory, picking out an MA38 Assault Rifle, M9L Pistol, and an M50 SSR Rocket Launcher. I modified the assault rifle to my own liking, adding a longer barrel. The M9L pistol already had a scope on it, and my rocket launcher's homing system seemed to be up and running.

After loading up, I made my way towards the docking bay, meeting up with Base Team.

"As is the Shackler... Spartan's are to be ground side first to clear an LZ. Once we have an LZ set up, Shackler will send in a drop ship with a temporary base that we'll use. Two Spartan X teams are to go ground side, how many Spartan IV are to you to decide."

Without anyone telling me to, I headed down to the armoury to pick up my weapons.
Phoenix and Falcon Team were already there when I arrived.
They were armed and ready to go.

I grabbed two M8 smg's and clipped them to my thighs before grabbing a silenced DMR and two frag grenades.

"Alright, we have our orders. Lets get this show on the road."

Upon leaving the armoury, Jeff was waiting outside.
"Need a lift Commander?"
I hesitated slightly before answering.
"Lead on."

"Just my Base Team, we'll meet you down at the LZ," I closed the com and made my way towards the pelican. It seemed like an older version, but modified, with more armor plating additional weapons, and from what I heard advanced engineering and system technology.

"Ready sir?"

I nodded at Nicole, and then motioned for the team to go into the Pelican.

Everybody was ready; motioning to the pilot that we were ready.
The pelican exited the docking bay and started it's descent into the atmosphere. The ship started to pick up speed, the ride picking up turbulence as it sped down. Our LZ was an old abandoned train station; not surprising a drone hive would be occupied there. The pelican made it's way down, slowing as it reached the ground. It moved in perfectly and then landed on the ground as if it were a butterfly.

"Everyone locked and loaded?"

They marked green on my HUD, and I knew we were all ready.

Vermilion re-entered Earths atmosphere, Gematria not far behind.
"Hull pressure holding steady, no temperature spikes. Stand by, reversing engines."

Vermilion eased through the slow down phase without any turbulence.
"Like a knife through butter... Courtney, open the comm links for Phoenix and Falcon teams and a separate channel for Matt."

Part 1: Into The Frying Pan
Despite its age, the old Pelican touched down on the ground without a problem.
"X double zero to Vermilion, Spartan X's are ground side. Were beginning to clear an LZ with the Spartan fours."
"Confirmed Matt, we have on screen now."

"Alright, radio silence and switch to shadow."
Six green lights blinked on my HUD in confirmation as both teams vanished from the sight of a normal human and we proceeded to the rendevouz with the Spartan IV's.

The Rendevouz was an old, abandoned train station.
A few dead drones later and we arrived.

Phoenix team went through the back door with me , Falcon went through the front.
The Spartan IV's were already inside.

I reappeared to greet Richard, Phoenix and Falcon team remained hidden from sight.
"Your team run into any drones on the way here?"

James:

I watched as the last Marine that was sent with me to the Hive died. He was pale white and still drenched in sweat, I sighed and moved a tarp over his body.

"Damn ONI bastards" I whispered to myself, "Knew damn well these guys wouldn't make it"

Suddenly my motion tracker picked up movement and I dashed behind cover, keeping the latest dead marine in my sight. I heard heavy footsteps walk through the door, the silence made me uneasy. I waited til it got closer, close enough so that I could feel my heart pounding against my chest.

It walked beside my cover and I leapt up, quickly grabbing it from behind and holding my combat knife against it's throat. However whatever I had grabbed was quicker to retaliat than what I had predicted and threw me off them and against a wall, making a loud THUD!. I looked up and saw something I didn't quite believe at first, a Spartan like myself stood over me.

I saw several other Spartans materialize out of nowhere, like some Covenant Elite shit. I snapped out of my amazment and realized they were aiming some pretty deceant-sized guns at me.

"Hey there" I said standing up, "I didn't expect to see the rescue party to get here so soon"

I looked at the dead marine under the tarp, "Still not soon enough" I said quietly.

"We're not here to rescue anyone" One of the Spartan X's said, "We're here to finish what was started"
"Well in that case, Spartan double-zero two-six, here to tell you how fucking wonderful timing you have" I said sarcasticly, "Alot good soldiers died here while you all took your sweet time"
"We came as soon as they gave us objective, there wasn't anything in the briefing about possible survivors"
"Probably cause they didn't expect any, I can't wait to get back just to laugh in those bastard higher-up's faces"
"Well, I guess your going to have to survive this first because your coming with us"

I stared at them for a few moments, realizing there wasn't any way around. I showed them an old subway map, and pointed out a few out of the hundreds of underground passages the drones burrowed in.

"The drones have gone through an evolutionary growth spurt" I said, "They developed the ability to shoot out large stingers out of their abdomen and have large spikes on their primary fore arms, not to mention their tougher exoskeleton"
"It's impossible to take out them all, there's just way to many to deal with" I told them, "The only way to make sure everyone of those fuckers dies, is to kill the Matriarch, the Queen, you do that and all the drones will be temporarily disabled"
"I'm guessing thats not as easy as it sounds" the Spartan X named Matt said.
"Hardly, She's all the way at the very deepest depths of the hive, during the summer it would be impossible to get to her through all the drones, However, we just started getting out of Winter so most of the drones will still be in hibernation. The Queen will be awake but extremely dazed and confused if we attack her now, however like the drones now she's gotten alot tougher and most weapons wont even scratch her tough exoskeleton, to make matters worse, the anything loud like say a rocket hitting the cieling would cause an insane cave-in which would actually kill all the drones hibernating underground, which is what we're going to do"

I let them all absorb what I was saying before continueing on.

"We're going to set charges in the Queens Royal chamber which should kill her and render the rest of the drone brain dead for a while, another set of charges will go into the central chamber, causing the nearly the entire underground hive to collaspe which will kill all the drones in there and the last set will be placed in the train station. Then we get into the dropships, get out of the blast range, blow the Hive sky-high, and mission success..... any questions?"

Me an my team sat in the back prepping our weapons, as we overheard about the drones.

"Base team ready?"

They all marked green and I nodded. Charlie took the pack of charges and placed them on his back. Luckily he wouldn't have to worry about it being shot and detonated as it was nearly impossible for that to happen. It can only be detonated instead of shot upon.

"Make sure our pelican is prepped and ready, keep it sealed until I tell you so, better you guys are safe; we'll handle ourselves," I said to through the com.

"Aye, sir."

I walked over to James, and although I was higher ranking, he didn't salute; which wasn't surprising. He was a bad seed in Spartan training, a late trainee, but a damn good fighter.

"James," I said greeting him, "I know your ass, and I know your the lone wolf type of soldier, but I want you sticking with me or the Spartan Xs."

I looked at my team and then opened a private channel with James, "now if your with me, I don't want any heroics or disorder, if I give a command I hope you follow or else they'll be some trouble. I don't care if you call me sir, hate me, spit on me, or whatever kind of shit you do, I just want my team out alive.Your a damn good fighter; just one with an attitude. If it were just you and me I wouldn't be spewing shit commands, but this is my team and I need to look out for them."

I turned and then looked back at him, "maybe we'll have a drink after all this is over, some R&R; doubt it though since we're spartans..."

I couldn't tell if he was angry, I hoped not; I was one of the only ones in the Spartan IV program to be somewhat friendly, if anything, with James. He was imprisoned and hated orders, but I had to lay it all out on the table. This wasn't the time or place to be Master Chief.

Chris-107:

Shields down. Back of overturned warthog. Badly scored armor. I wasn't in a good place.

I opened up my coms, broadcasting on all UNSC channels. Needle-like projectiles struck the warthog's underside, puncturing the tires, deflating them. I started to message. "All UNSC forces, please respond. This is Master Chief Petty Officer Spartan-107 calling for immediate aid. We are under fire by a Drone swarm. We have wounded, and require assitance."

My shields came back up. I smiled. I didn't waste time deactivating my comms. I swung my MA5C up, looked out over cover, and opened fire. Gouts of green blood tore the air as drones were ripped apart mid-flight. Spikes whistled towards me, several striking my shields. I didn't bother taking cover, not until my shields dropped.

A drone exploded in half from the hail of gunfire and slammed into the warthog. It was still partially alive. With a squeal, it started to claw its way up the wathog and claw at me, oozing blood the whole way. I cracked the but of my rifle against its head, and its skull nearly exploded.

I turned to Joanna.
"I know your Commander of Falcon but I'm putting you under Richards command alright?"
She nodded "Fine with me."

"Negative," I said to Matt, hearing the distress call, "theres a spartan out there."

I walked to James, "lemme see this," he handed me the map of the area and hive.

"I'll regroup with you here," I said pointing to an area a klick away from the hive.

I turned to Nicole, "your in charge of Base Team," then turning to Falcon team I said, "your first order; Base team will be the brute force, I need your team to be their shadow and provide support fire."

Matt nodded towards me, and then I turned and made my way towards, turning on my private com once more, "James, try not to start any problems, or else I'll be one of yours...take care of Base team."

I opened up my com to the Mail Man, "send in a Falcon at my position, there is another spartan on the ground."

"Falcon is on it's way."

Making my way out of the station, the Falcon landed smoothly in front of me. I jumped in quickly; speeding off into the distance. I noticed there was combat nearby and then I noticed Chris - 107, a good friend of mine and a fellow spartan from years ago.

"Provide support fire! Pick us up once we've cleared an LZ at this position!"

"Aye, sir!" The pilot said.

I jumped out of the falcon and rolled towards Chris behind the warthog; spraying down 6 drones in that single motion while I was at it.

"Long time no see," I couldn't help, but grin under my helmet; it's been to long since I've fought alongside my fellow spartan IIs from years ago.
